YIKES.....14 dead and 50 hurt in batman movie shooting in Denver

  • The suspect's apartment has been described as a "modest" apartment reserved for students.

I do not know what part of town the medical school is in, nor the conditions of that area...just though I would share.

PS -- the youngest victim was 6 years old. First of all, what is a 6 year-old doing at The Dark Knight Rises, much less a midnight showing of the movie? Nonetheless, I hope the guy fries.

It is sort of like Long Beach, really big with some decent areas, but far more bad areas.

Both places are known for their mountains--Pike's Peak in Colorado and Bixby Hill in Long Beach.

Not what I meant. People seem to be implying it's not a nice area or something.

Its not that bad. I just stayed there on July 4th. Its not Highlands Ranch but its not Compton either.

Reports keep flowing in, however, in their effort to assess blame, the press has engaged in some very irresponsible journalism. Specifically, ABC/GMA reported that Jim Holmes was a member of the Colorado TEA Party. When In fact, THAT Jim Holmes is significantly older than the suspect that has been apprehended.

This incident does not seem to be politically motivated, but rather the actions of a very disturbed young man. Why the rush to blame the right or the left instead of actually reporting the facts?

Additionally, the booby trap is reported to be VERY sophisticated and police bomb squads have not been able to determine a safe way to enter the apartment and are consulting military and FBI bomb experts -- apparently they have a "Hurt Locker" situation going on in Aurora right now.

This is beyond irresponsible. In their rush to land this horrible event on the Tea Party, they have erroneously identified a real person, who essentially they have endangered.

These "journalists" should be sued big time to rein them in.

Either that or they could try being unbiased reporters instead. coffee

Haha, Pikes Peak is about 60 miles away but they have an awesome race up the mountain every 4th of July.

i was part(one of the wrenches) of a racing team that won the race to the top in the early 70ssmoke

this shooting is such a sad event and had to be a living nightmare as it was being carried out. at first thinkin it was a stunt, then the part where you would think "wait, is this real?", then the realization that this guy is actually shooting people.

Did you know that Katharine Lee Bates wrote a poem, Pikes Peak, that was later turned into a song, and a song you're probably heard?

What's the name of the song?

I've been to the top of Pike's Peak, but I haven't been to the top of Bixby Hill, because it's a gated community.

Oh I have been to the top, it has a great view and if you are lucky enough, the Air Force will have some jets flying close by. Always wanted to see the race.

have read that it's paved all the way to the top. very different than 40 years ago= we had to run very soft tire compound and at the end there musta been 15lbs of pea sized rocks imbedded in the rubber of each tire.

You think LB has far more bad areas than decent/nice areas?

You took the question out of my mouth.

Long Beach is not only my favorite city in the Los Angeles area, it's also the most misunderstood city in Socal.

I would agree that it is underrated, but one cannot dispute that there are parts of LB which you would not want o be caught in after sundown.

Last time I was up, two years ago, it was paved most of the way, with a section at the top that was dirt and rocks.

I lived at 10th and Loma in the Wilson HS district for a few years, didn't think that was a great area, and it only got worse the more North you went. The did a good job of trying to clean up downtown and obviously 2nd street is a really nice area.

The city is also the home of the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, which is one of the city's largest employers.

The campus is on the site of the former Fitzsimons Army Medical Center. In August, 1961, I stayed across the street from it when it was still run by the Army, and I ate in its cafeteria at least once.

In 1991, I stayed in the same motel where I stayed in 1961. Although the cottonwood trees were still there, I quickly found out that 1991 wasn't 1961, and that the motel's primary clientele was no longer vacationing families.

East Long Beach is a nice area--like East Colorado. But East Long Beach, particularly the beach area, probably sees more tourists.

Long Beach has far more "decent" areas than bad areas. There are corridors of bad areas that cut through really nice areas.

Exactly, the 7th St between 10th St corridor north of Redondo has a high ethnic population. There is also the Anaheim and PCH corridor, however, there are also some nice spots within there.

It's like most other places with a population of almost 500,000 people.

I've been trying to move back to Long Beach for at least the last 10 years. Something always fucks up my plans, but I will live in that wonderful city again soon. It's time.
