Third NBC Staffer let go because of Zimmerman edit-

  • Ahem...now we have at least two names...

Another NBC News staffer has been fired over the network's botched editing of Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman's 911 tape — but this time, she was let go over an entirely different error from the one that has roiled the division.

TVNewser reported Wednesday that Lilia Luciano, a correspondent based out of Miami, is no longer working with the network. Luciano was one of the chief reporters covering the Martin case, though at least two of her reports appear to have been scrubbed from the "Today" website.

Luciano is at least the third person to be let go by NBC after it aired misleading clips of the Zimmerman tape. In the edit that has drawn the most attention, viewers heard Zimmerman say that Martin "looks black," but did not hear the dispatcher he was speaking to ask him what race Martin was.

NBC apologized for the error and fired a "Today" producer. A local Miami journalist was also let go.

According to TVNewser, one of Luciano's pieces made a completely new mistake, combining sections from two different portions of the tape to give the misleading impression that Zimmerman said the phrase, "This guy looks like he’s up to no good or on drugs or something. He’s got his hand in his waistband. And he’s a black male."

Zimmerman is currently facing a second-degree murder charge for the Martin shooting.

A veteran NBC Miami reporter has been fired in the ongoing probe over an edited s 911 call, placed moments before Zimmerman shot unarmed teen Trayvon Martin.

there's been some bad shit happen and could have been more bad shit/worse happen because of the Trayvon incident. some of this reporting was inciting and very irresponsible. if Fox had/has done something like this, then whoever was responsible should be dealt with in a similar manor.

After all, according to the self-professed legal scholar morethana, it's illegal to release names of employees who have been fired.

What, no comment about CNN, ABC and Newsweek engaging in falsifying and misleading edits To fit their own narrative of the same story?

I would be perfectly fine if Fox fired Doocy, but as we are seeing right now, if that was the criteria for firing journalists, there would be more pink slips going out than stories.

Frankly, Doocey's story was likely only noticed by the "Gotcha" crowd it seemed so benign while these were incendiary in nature.

Why no mention of the fact that we now have confirmed reports that three separate NBC reporters/journalists altered at least four separate reports to shape their narrative? Interesting to note that none of those three employees worked together, but all engaged in the same dishonest activities.

Isn't that the least bit disconcerting to you, or has your preoccupation with them firing these employees blinded you to the systemic toxicity emanating from their news department?

Jeff Burnside was dismissed from network-owned NBC Miami (WTVJ) over a similarly edited clip on Friday, as first reported by South Florida news blog SFLTV.

According to the Miami Herald, ***two unidentified employees were also disciplined***.

NBC Miami said in an "edit explanation" posted Wednesday evening that it broadcast the edited call March 19, confirming it ran ***several days BEFORE*** the controversial "Today" clip.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

she was let go over ***an entirely DIFFERENT error*** from the one that has roiled the division.

"at least ***two of her reports*** appear to have been scrubbed from the "Today" website"

Meh. Fox would be forced to fire people as well if their edits started riots and got elderly couples assaulted in the street.

What is interesting and exciting to me, is that this thread was started by Stank - it certainly undermines some of the foundation for his anger and frustration at the outset of this story/event.

He is willing to be here now though (like he was going anywhere. Hah!) and willing to continue the discussion, even about the parts that deflect and obfuscate the facts and details of the issue.

    Truly an honest poster.

You have joined the lying conservatives. Show where I wrote that it is "illegal." I will give you a hint. I NEVER use that lay term. I never wrote or implied that there is anything illegal with releasing the name of anyone fired. I did mention that the station may want to be careful, because of potential liability.

Please tell me the last "race war" that was spurred by FOX News reporting.

The NBPP is the one calling for this based on the irresponsible reporting on the part of NBC.

Additionally, I agree with you that any deliberate alteration of evidence in order to support the agenda of a "reporter" is grounds for firing. If FOX has failed to do so in the past, that is wrong and they should have fired that person.

I will also point out that CBS did not fire Dan Rather for the Bush Forgeries. He stepped aside from his chair on-air, but continued to run the CBS news organization. So, neither side of the political aisle has their hands clean on this matter.

The difference is that in THIS case the alteration of evidence has lead to an explosive situation that has community leaders putting bounties on other people's heads and calling fro a race war.

PS -- Greta is a pretty hard-core lib and one of the most respected legal journalists in her field. I find it odd that she was the darling of the left while she was at CNN, and as soon as she got to FOX she became persona-non-grata.

Not a lie at all. Just an aspiring NBC reporter playing loose with the facts.banana

You made that comment four days ago, so it's not like I had the verbiage memorized.

    http://usc.247sports.com/Board/59419/Fox-and-Its-Friends-9307501/2

You implied there could be legal implications involved, which is where I got the term illegal from.

While you are correct in that NBC did not release the names of these two recent employees fired, if anything, it gives more credence to the notion that a producer was never fired for the blunder that was played nationally.

After all, TVNewser and the Miami Herald had no problem getting the names of these two employees who were fired, but not one third-party media outlet has been able to acquire the name of this producer who was allegedly fired.

Do you think that no one was poking around trying to find out his name to confirm their reports, or has all of his colleagues just suddenly clammed up and circled the wagons to protect his identity?
    -----------------------------------------------------------------
Morethanafan: You keep claiming to be so business savvy. For fear of legal action, **no business** discusses employee decisions by name. In fact, claiming that they fired someone for this is extra ordinary, probably to protect their reputation. Stating a name is not likely under any circumstace. Can you name one Fox employee fired for making false statements?

  • This is the danger of trial by media. Of course this case is controversial, but we should let justice take its course. There was clearly enough evidence to bring the case to trial, but some of the media 'enthusiasm' was less objective purveyor of justice than a response to channel the outrage over the incident into being judge, jury and executioner. FOX News is, of course, the most dishonest 'news' channel in the Western world, but this is on NBC and I am glad they took action.

What does it tell you when 3 separate employees at 3 different locations from one network radically altered a story?

Do you believe this is an isolated incident...or a peek into their customary 'news' practices?

Cripes...they only took action because they got caught.

But people get caught all the time and nothing happens. I do think the public mood, the feeling (rightly, IMHO) that not charging Zimmerman at least was absurd, and the need for a scoop in the 24 hr news media led to some serious errors in judgment.
