The Big Ticket is officially back...

  • I understand and don't understand this move all at the same time. The Celtics will surely be better with him than without him, but what is that going to equal a 4th-5th place finish in the Eastern Conference?

If the goal is to win a title, what is the next move?

Well...the Celts have proved they can win on the road. It wouldn't suck if they could finished 4th or 5th and be injury free plus well rested. They finished 5th and made to the Eastern Finals injuries and all. It didn't hurt the Bulls went down hard themselves. The east is maybe 4 deep right now. We'll see...

Beat Miami...win the title. Simple as that?

Talking about "staying healthy", the plan is to resign an aging Kevin Garnet who is breaking down faster than a tweener at a Bieber concert?

Veteran teams don't really bother playing until the playoffs. The trick is just to get them there in one piece and not exhausted.

I mentioned that earlier. The Celts broke down big time heading into the playoffs. The one thing they had going for 'em was Garnett's minutes were down. Pierce's were down slightly, as well.

Hopefully they can bring the same team back and stay healthy this season. Don't need a big man to win the whole thing...just fresh healthy bodies.

19 and 9 during the playoffs is not breaking down. 1-8 in the 2nd round back-to-back years is breaking down. No...I stand corrected...1-8 is quitting.

  • You guys just offered Ray 2/12

    Chris Broussard‏@Chris_Broussard

Source: Celtics willing to double (in terms of $) Heat offer to Ray Allen. Will give 2 years/$12 million. Heat can offer only $3 mill a yr

I have no clue what Danny is doing anymore.

Just face it dude, Celtics fucked up. Knobby-knees is running on fumes and 3 years is a long time.

Yup...saw that earlier this morning. Was just about to post it.

The key is to stay under 74 million. That is the luxury cap tax cut off. Doubling Miami's offer still allows the Celts to go after Bass and Green plus have a full mid-level to offer (5 or 6 mil). Garnett signing for less dough was key. Hopefully Ray stays. We'll see...

So old...but came so close. Wheels coming off and still made it to the Eastern Conference Finals. If Rose doesn't comeback a 100%?...we could see a Boston/Miami rematch. I like the C's chances if healthy.

Bradley is going to start next year whether Ray resigns or not. Ray and KG are looking at 30 minutes a night. PP is looking at 33-35 when Green comes aboard. They should have their legs under 'em come playoff time.

lol No...they'll just add a geriatric nurse. Got to keep a trainer on staff for the youngins. Whatever it takes. thumbsup

Just remember this when we say the East is weak next year. Other then Rondo no one is really playing at a peak level and you think you can make the Conference finals, that doesn't work in the West. Why am I arguing, good luck

The west is going to be tougher next year, no doubt. The usual top 2 plus the lakers, Clippers, and Grizzles. And maybe even Denver and Dallas...who knows?

The east is Miami, Boston, Chicago and Indiana. The rest are teams are the Denver and Dallas of the world.

Just want the Celts to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals and let the chips fall where they may.

Btw...you're not arguing. You made some valid points. Thanks.

So you would want to have three years of Kevin Garnett for a total of over 10 or 11 million dollars a year. Kevin Garnett is 36 years old. Wouldn't you want a player like Deron Williams, Eric Gordon, Roy Hibbert , or Ryan Anderon for the same three years of a contract even if they cost more?

Who knows who will be hot and who will not 2 years from now. I'm hearing KG's third year will be optional. Stay tuned.

I'll worry about that then. KG, PP, and RA could/should be all off the books at that point. We'll see who's is available then.

Rajon Rondo has three years left on his contract. Boston got a great deal with Rajon Rondo. To pay for an All Star only 11 or 12 million dollars a year is great.

I think Boston has a great chance to be the second best team in the East since Derek Rose is injured and if Dwight Howard and Joe Johnson are traded.

Much smarter people (Coaches, Owners, and Players) than you don't think so. We'll let you know if anything further is needed.lol

    LMAO...knobby-knees?...are you referring to Kobe?

Rose being injured is huge. As for Orlando and Atlanta?...Boston had their way with 'em injured and all last season. But your opinion/prediction is duly noted.

As for Rondo?...he'll get his. The Celts will lose 35 million regarding cap space once the Big 3 retire.

As close as they were to winning the East, they were just as close to losing to an 8-seed. I suppose it depends on what New Jersey ends up looking like, but to me Boston needs a lot of things to go right in order just to get back to where they were.

I appreciate the kind words. Sounds like we're still hurting a little, huh?

Between 10-12 mil was the going rate for KG this off season. The Celts are saving 10 off last year's contract. So...do the math. KG's 10 million plus Ray's 10 million plus O'Neal's 6 million plus Rasheed's 6 million = 32 million.

That's a lot of dough off the books. Essentially...the Celts can resign last year's roster, which includes Allen, Bass, Pietrus, Green, Wilcox and pay low ball luxury tax. May even have a little left over for a decent free agent.

Still sound like a trip to the lottery, hater?

this is a perfect move. KG probably has 1.5 seasons left in him, so a good move on his part. the best thing is, it is perfect for all involved. KG gets the 10+ mil per season and they re-sign the rest of the aging/injured roster...... and boston fan gets to pretend that they will be relevant.

best part about it for me is that the Lakers didnt win the title this year and all you hear from the fans are sentiments along the lines of "we need to get better. if that means blowing up the roster then do it"....while boston came away losers as well and they jumped at the chance to re-sign half the old folks home. again.

I get it tho. set the bar low, and you will over-achieve regularly. but to be chest pumping about going one round farther than your rival (well historically I guess as boston hasnt done anything to warrant that of late) really is a slap in your team's face. I can remember when boston was a contender. but that was many moons ago.

For $20 you get Chachi, but $40 gets you Fonzie....

  • But you have to think what is possible. The timing of blowing up a roster is as important as the decision to do so. Seeing the Free Agent pool it seems to make sense to re-sign the guys, gain a mid-level exemption to spend on Mayo/Terry/Crawford for those scoring droughts, hope for better health and the return of Jeff Green, see continued development from their young players etc

I think this makes for the strongest possible Celtics team in a pretty weak East.

They had a lot go wrong and still ended up in the Eastern Conference Final. Who knows what happens if they had stayed healthy. If's and what's, huh? We'll never know.

With that said. I'm hoping they can bring back the core and maybe add Terry. That would be a solid group. We shall see.
