Santorum Dropping

  • Kudos to the Dad!

Fox just confirmed the news conference is to announce Santorum is dropping out of the Presidential race. I have to think this has to do with his daughter, and you have to think this is one of the best decisions he has made in his life. You HAVE to put your family first in a situation like this.

I think the fact he was about to lose Pennsylvania was a big factor. I am relieved he is not going to be a nominee, but I will tip my hat to the guy for running a very good campaign. Santorum is pretty wacky, but he kept it under wraps for the most part and became a credible candidate. He went much further than anyone expected him to go.

Falling behind in Penn is surely a factor. I'm not sure that would be enought to get him to drop out TODAY. I HAVE to think the decision to drop out, given that it is today, HAS to be strongly related to watching his daughter struggle with her health. I can't imagine voluntarily giving so much of what could be very limited time left with my daughter to campaigning for POTUS.

I am sure it reminded him he has more important things to do than tilt at windmills....

I'm sure you are right about Penn being a big factor. Better to drop out before having the painful experience of losing in your home state. Gives him a much better chance at future political success to not be a two-time loser in your own state.

I just think this announcement, today, is related to his daughter, and I have to say it gives me a much better impression of the guy.

  • what a sad little room he is ending it in.

To anyone who has ever lost a child, there is nothing, NOTHING more important than the limited time we have with them... Even if you live to be 80.

I do not want to even imagine the pain of losing one of my children. It would be devastating to me.

You are giving him far too much credit for being the last not-Romney.

As far as keeping it under wraps, I don't agree. The "blacks" comment in Iowa was brutal, his swearing at a reporter was ridiculous, and his extreme social viewpoints were wacky although I won't hold it against him in this context. One thing Rick Santorum can and should teach progressives is that social viewpoints or religious fanaticism doesn't preclude someone from being a good guy. Santorum seemed like a nice guy.

But in the end the guy was just the last not Romney. Period.

If I live to be 100, it's doubtful that I'll experience pain equal to that of losing a child. The only comfort one can take from it is that you are the one that suffers instead of them.

The only thing I have ever asked for from God is that any punishment, torment or pain He needs to visit on my family, that He do it to me and leave my daughter alone to live a long, healthy, happy and prosperous life. That's it; I would gladly go to Hell (if there is such a thing) if it guaranteed my daughter a spot in Heaven.

Just the very idea of something happening to her makes me break out into a cold sweat.

Certainly makes the book "A Time to Kill" a compelling story, doesn't it?

    Yep.

Or the true story of the guy who waited outside the courtroom to shoot the pedophile who molested his son.

Definitely can relate to either of those scenarios.

So can I. If someone did something terrible to one of my children and was not convicted, I'd be the guy outside the courtroom in your example, or Carl Lee Hailey in Time to Kill.

"extreme social viewpoints" "religious fanaticism" So you hold strongly opposite viewpoints. You encourage abortion, have no respect for the unborn life removed; you think a solid Catholic who is not afraid to announce his faith is problematic to the point of being "fanatic."

The Founders must really piss you off.

How about you enlighten the board about Islam if a Catholic frightens you? While you discuss islam throw in bho's early upbringing that soaked him in islam and caused him to state not at all long ago that the call to prayers is the most beautiful sounds on earth. Honor killings. Women treated as utensils. Calling for conversion, taxes on non-islam, or death. Celebratory songs and dancing in the streets of muslim capitals after 911. Yeah, Rick Santorum is really fanatic.

    So you're a Santorum supporter?

Because a couple weeks ago I posted a thread asking for Santorum supporters to step up and claim him, given the fact that he's a nutjob.

    Yeah, I say he's a fucking nutjob.

The separation of church and state makes him want to throw up?
The fact that he would ban hardcore porn?

Those are just two off the top of my head. Yeah, he's a fucking lunatic. He's a SINCERE lunatic; I do think he not only talks the talk he walks the walk, but that's why he'll never be President. Unless he pulls his head out of his ass and stops saying (and more importantly believing) the bizarre shit he says.

I've been one of the board's most outspoken critics of Islam for the better part of four years (counting WeAreSC), save for Khan, so hold your horses there big guy. I, unlike you, am not a deranged lunatic, so I don't lump Obama in with Muslims. With that said, I know some great Muslims who I call friends, and I feel heartache when I remember my friend Mohammed introducing himself to me as "Mo" at the gym.

Rick Santorum is a religious fanatic because of his extreme viewpoints that he'd project on the country should he have ended up in Washington. These include, but are not limited to: abortion, homosexual rights, education policy, censorship, allocation of funds to science, etc., I suspect the below will upset me a whole lot more than you, but he will be tied to this forever.
