  • Absolutely baffling that the dumb fucks at NBC tape delayed the premiere event of the entire olympic games. Its one thing to do it during the weekdays, but on a freaking Sunday afternoon?!?!? Unfuckingreal! I had to go on my IPAD and FaceTime one of my Canadian GFs to watch the race live. Disgusting!

    If you're gonna tape delay it, at least put it on at an hour when people will watch it. They finally showed the race after 11pm and by that time I had fallen asleep waiting on them to show it.

  • When you watch him run the 100, it looks like he is a giant compared to the rest of the runners.

    The fact that a man that size can run that fast in such a short distance is baffling. Great athlete.

    PS -- whomever thinks he is a better athlete that Phelps is kidding themselves. What Phelps did in 2008 is akin to someone winning the 200, 400, Hurdles, long jump and Steeplechase in Track. Remember Phleps not only won the gold, but also set the WR in the 200 IM, 400 IM, and 200 Fly. Last Track athlete to come close to doing anything like that was Carl Lewis. Come talk to me next time a track athlete holds sets three world records in one Olympics - Phleps is the swimming equivalent of Jesse Owens.

    Phelps is a great athlete, and what he has done in the pool is phenomenal. PHENOMENAL.
    But his biggest story out of the pool was smoking weed at a party. Who cares.
    Owens showed up the entire NAZI establishment in Germany. The greatest Olympian ever is Owens, and its NOT just because on one day he was faster and jumped farther than some other guys. He did it with the weight of the free world on his back, and a free world that begrudged him many of his own freedoms.

    Owens kicks all their asses.

    Bolt lowered to 100 meter record by a margin that it took all other runners to 70 years to do and he broke Michael Johnson's 200 meter thought to be unbreakable, twice and will probably do it again

    Phelps is great at something over half the people in the world can't even do. Swim.

    There has never been anything like Bolt before

    Bolt has an endorsement deal with Puma that is worth in excess of $10m/yr. I saw the statement recently that his endorsement earnings are more than all of the other competitors at any given meet he competes at combined...for all events.

    He makes 100K just to show up at some European meets.

    He has probably made about 10-20 Million since Beijing, and if he completes this double, he will probably be in the 10 Million a year range for the next 5 or 10 years

    Not sure what his Puma Deal is worth, but I have a feeling they will renegotiate if he takes the 200

    With his prowess, and affable personality, he is very marketable

    phelps is a great swimmer, but not a great athlete. To equate swimming with sprinting, you would need to have a 60 meter sprint, an 80 meter sprint, and a 120 meter sprint in addition to the 100. Not too mention that far less people have access to a pool, than they do a place to run, and the overall talent pool is but a fraction of what a sprinter has to deal with.
