Yup....kid has no apparent flaw in his game. True definition of a 5 tool player. Angel management should be stoned w/o trial for keeping him in the minors to start the season.

  • MVP right now as a rookie. Most Angel fans have been on the DL about this kid not wanting to jinx it. Way early but he looks to have that magic only a few players have over generations. Going to be insane trying to keep him away from NY when his payday comes... he's from Jersey.

  • He does have a place on my all time fish team --

C -- Steve Lake. Hey, you gotta catch the fish somewhere.

    1B -- Randy Bass.

    2B -- Cod Myers. From the 1880s.

3B -- Neal Finn. Nicknamed Mickey, not surprisingly.

SS -- Lip Pike. From 1872. I couldn't use Mike Schmidt.

    IF -- Bobby Sturgeon.

OF -- Tim Salmon. Hit 299 career home runs, all with the Angels.

OF -- Kevin Bass. An NL All-Star with the Astros in 1986, when he hit .311 with 20 home runs.

OF -- Mike Trout. He replaces George Haddock.

P -- Catfish Hunter, Dizzy Trout, Steve Trout (aka "Rainbow"), Marlin Stuart and Art Herring (nickname, Red).

The serenity to accept the things I cannot change, The courage to change the things I can, And the wisdom to know the difference.

Do you like to be wrong alot on purpose for fun?
Making insane comments and predictions just for reactions like a Steve Hartman on am570?
    IS THIS Steve Hartman?!?

Baseball FA confuses me when the players are young. When you draft the kid, how many years do you have control of him? I know there is a "timer" once he hits the majors. What is it?

He was a young teenager who hit .220 for the Angels at the end of last year as he was pressing like crazy.

Nothing wrong with letting him play in AAA for the 1st time to work on a few things since the outfield was set early (Had no choice but to play Wells because of that contract)

  • Do you like Trout over Bryce Harper? Harper is what 18?

    Metrobank

  • Harper is 1 year younger then Trout.
Trout had a rough year in the majors last year even though he had less then 100 ABs, so he didnt have time to get out of that little slump.

Harper in his 1st year came on pretty good. but reality hit and hes now hitting .258 with only 1 HR in July. He was very solid in lower level minors but in AA and AAA he didnt hit very well. Hes was/is still a pup (mentally as well).
I thought they should have kept him in the minors for a bit. No matter how good or bad he hit, they were going to rush him to the big club. Way different philosophy then the Angels org.
Probably because Washington didnt have much talent in the outfield and they needed him NOW.

    Who would I take?
Harper in the perfect corner outfielder. He will hit for big power, hes an athlete and he has a cannon for an arm. He'll be an All-Star for MANY years

Trout not only is that rare 5 tool player, but they are tools that are all among the leagues best.

What separates these kids even more in their mental make-up. Nothing wrong with Harper, hes getting some bugs out between his ears and im sure he'll be fine as hes maturing.
but Trouts mentality, work ethic, humble, respect for the game, happy go lucky demeanour that club houses LOVE is HUGE!
Its funny when you hear "baseball tonight" people listen to an interview with Trout. They are blown away by his attitude. I think even Kruk said he wants to adopt him!

Cant go wrong with either one, but if im going to invest a 10 year contract in a player, im taking the 5 tool player with the PERFECT mental makeup.

If he has a flaw, it is that right now he strikes out a little too much and his arm is mediocre at best.

Scary thing is, he's probably going to get stronger and faster. He's probably going to hit ~30hr this year in about 135 games. A lead-off hitting CF who is a batting champ contender, has legit 35hr power, ridiculous range on defense, and is arguably the best baserunner in the league...haven't been too many off those, ever.

He actually has a pretty solid arm....not as cannonlike as Harper's, but I'd give him a C+ on arm strength.

Six years on his rookie contract.

This will be the year of the South Jersey kid doing work in So Cal. Watch for Ant Sarao to bring the wood, too.
