See my response to Wake above.
They do not go with them because they are more safe...they go with them because the people in the stands and the people running these companies that buy ad space are the ones spending the money at the Super Bowl and on the products being pimped in the commercials.

She was exactly what we knew she would be. She has never been a great singer, and she has never been exceptionally great as a live performer. She always has a great production, and makes an event out of her live appearances. She lip synced most of the show, but anyone with a brain expected that from her. Overall I giver her a solid B for her show.
Complaining about her age (or those of past performers) is stupid. She is what she is. She looked good and dressed appropriate for a performer of her age (and body), she was not half as provocative as she would have been 20 years ago.

Tina Turner may not have made as much money as Madonna....but I would say she has more talent and she marketed herself well to step out of the box she was placed in musically and culturally. She looks damn good for her age too.
Maybe you wish to call me a hater, but I can be just as passionate in my respect for a lady who did it her way, with talent and showmanship.

The amount of negativity that you are showing on this thread does not seem to be in proportion to what we saw last night. Seriously.........it wasn't that bad of a performance. I think your comments are more in line with you hating Madonna, rather than being about the show last night.

Look, I don't go to the OT to spill my guts on my political views, religion, or feel the need for ANY of you to approve my views on ANYTHING. I'm here strictly for football information, once in a great while I'll express a view not football related in the least - not counting my responses to trolls that is.
I'm not arrogant enough to think my opinion is the only one...but, evidently some of you do think you're the only ones that can feel something is "not that bad"...I simply expressed my opinion, didn't ask for any of you to change your minds..frankly, who really cares?
Never been accused of being insipid, and none of you are close enough to me that I would consider/or wish for this to be a debate. I've said what I felt, and frankly, this subject isn't worth another thought to me. Carry on!

You and Blem are cracking me up.
Is she musically talented like a Streisand or Beyonce? No. Can she put on a show like no one else? Without a doubt. Is she getting past her prime? Definitely. Did she embarrass herself? Not even close.
The problem was not Madonna. The problem is trying to squeeze Madonna into a corporate structured program...that does not work.
I was disappointed in the song selections more than anything else.

In the early 80's the drummer I mostly played with was a guy named Larry Dent. Incredible drummer that helped me get through some times when I was just learning to play. Great drummer, great person and great friend.
Anyway, he was married to a fantastic singer named Christine Dent. Great voice, beautiful girl. Spunky little Blond from Boston. She sang backup on an album I produced.
She got a production deal with a guy named Brian Eliot, and then got signed to the same Label as Madonna. I think it was Warners. They recorded an album, of which Papa Don't Preach was going to be the debut single. Some people at the record company were listening to it one day and Madonna was there.
"Who's song is that?"
Well, it is a song by a new artist we are getting ready to release named Christine Dent.
" I want it".
But her album is done, we are just waiting on the cover art
"Maybe you didn't hear me clearly enough, I WANT that song".
So Madonna got the song, wrote an extra line or two so she would get writers credit and Christine Dent got sent packing. No album, no record deal, nothing.
Now she didn't write the song, and Brian Eliot had the LEGAL right to do whatever he wanted with the song.
But that is very typical of Madonna's ruthlessness. the people at the record company DESPISED her, but she was making them so much money, they just caved in.
But the thing that REALLY made me sick about the whole thing was how Madonna completely ripped Christine's Vocal off when she recorded her version. I have heard both, and it was STUNNING how much Madonna stole from Christine. Totally mimicked her vocal, word for word.
Christine was prettier, AND more talented than Madonna ever thought of being, and she basically never had a real career after that. She lost a baby around the same time and her life just wasn't very good after that, including a divorce.
i will always believe that she would have had a solid career, maybe not on the level of Madonna, but she was definitely good enough to have been on the level of a Pat Benetar or Cheryl Crowe.
So we will never know if her releasing that song as a debut single with Warner promoting it would have been a hit, but it was a great song before Madonna ever heard it.
