How come we never hear about this kind of news?

Do you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts on why the AP took the law enforcements statement verbatim except for the race of the suspects? They included gender, number of suspects, make and model of car but didn't bother to include race. The second link is actually from Sanford Fl. They give the height, weight, clothing and approx age but not race.

All you have to do is google, "race of suspects omitted" to see a lot of examples.

Since I do think you're a smart guy I am no longer of the opinion that you don't believe the media intentionally handles issues of black suspects extra delicately.

Looking at this am's news, I see race is covered, at least in the Tulsa case:

",,,,Alvin Watts and Jake England appeared via closed-circuit television from jail for their first court appearance Monday. A judge set their bond at $10,160,000 apiece......

Police describe the suspects as white and the victims as black but can't yet say if the attacks were racially motivated. Police are examining whether England was trying to avenge the death of his father, who was killed two years ago....."

    http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_OKLAHOMA_SHOOTING_SPREE?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2012-04-09-10-23-44

So, if the media,, when it "can't yet say if the attacks were racially motivated," the SOP is to give the races of those involved anyway, just in case, or does that depend too on other things?.

The day before the shootings, Jake England posted some racist things on his facebook:

"Today is two years that my dad has been gone shot by a fucking nigger it‘s hard not to go off between that and sheran I’m gone in the head. RIP . Dad and sheran I . Love and miss u I think about both of u every second of the day"

The Sheran (I suspect he misspelled her name) he is referring to is his GF who shot and killed herself in front of him.

The guy is clearly a kook, but this looks very much like a race-motivated shooting. All victims were black, and with one suspect we have a plausible motive for targeting the black community, with things like the above posted on his Facebook page. I think this supports the quote posted earlier, from a journalist with the Houston News Chronicle, that race will be mentioned if race was likely to have take part or is possible to have taken a part in a crime.

Then it's okay as long as there is a "reasonable" basis, or any basis. to speculate race may be involved?

I'm not a journalist and have never been educated as one, so I don't know the answer to that question. What I found through Google I posted here --

    1) A journalist for a Houston newspaper saying she mentions race only when a suspect/victim's race is a factor in a crime

    2) The first three AP crime articles I clicked on at 5:51 P.M PST yesterday that do not mention the race of the suspect.

If you were a journalist, would you omit the either very clear, or very intriguing racial angle from your article on the Tulsa shooting?

This was sent to me this morning. With all of the attention given to the Martin case why isn't something like this hitting the headlines. I guess it isn't news. This is very sad and disgusts me. The comment the sender made was "If Obama had a son, would he look like Tyrone Woodfork? Just asking...."

A rape/murder last week - hear about it?

A week ago, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a black kid named Tyrone Woodfork severely beat an elderly couple, a Mr. & Mrs. Strait, who had been married for 65 years. Tyrone RAPED Mrs. Strait, and she died of injuries received at his hands. Mr. Strait served in the 101st Airborne during WWII. No national media carried the story. Tyrone was arrested yesterday. I supposed that if Mr. Strait had shot Tyrone, the whole country would know about the story. As it is, only Mrs. Strait died, so it's not of interest to Brian Williams and the rest of the main stream media media.

So after 65 years of marriage, after serving our country, after 90 years of life, Mr. Strait has lost his wife to a rapist/murderer. NO ONE in the national media gives a flip. They're interested in Trayvon Martin.

A man accused of assaulting an elderly couple this month was formally charged Monday. Tyrone Woodfork, 20, was charged in Tulsa County District Court with felony first-degree murder, two counts of robbery with a firearm and first-degree burglary. Bob and Nancy Strait were assaulted March 14 in their home in the 3300 block of East Virgin Street. Nancy Strait died March 15 from injuries related to the assault. She was also raped. Bob Strait is still recovering from multiple injuries and has been re-admitted to a hospital. Woodfork was arrested March 15 after witnesses reported seeing the couple’s stolen 2001 Dodge Neon in the 3500 block of East Fourth Street. He remains in the Tulsa Jail without bond.

That's awesome. You are a man of mystery and based on your posts here I'm taking a guess that you've done some big things.

If I were a journalist, I'd aim to be informative, accurate, and thought provoking. I would mention England's facebook posts, his race, and the fact that he went into a predominately black neighborhood and shot up five black people, because those are all facts in the story that would pique my readers' interest.

In the two speicific instances I noted above they noted make and model of car, wardrope, gender, approx age, number suspects (as if they were looking for help finding the suspects) but left out race.

Do you want to take a guess as to what the reasoning was for that?

Black on white murders bore bho and Holder to death. They are so common if reported the paper would have many every week. Facts don't kill. Killers kill. Racism is RAMPANT in the black community. While loving my black conservatives and churchgoers, look out, as even "the Reverend" Jackson says, if a young, hoodie black male walks up on you.

So racism against white people is running rapid these days IMO. Black kid gets killed and the white man is the devil. 90 yr old lady gets rapped and killed and it gets in a couple of newspapers. I didnt hear Obama say those could of been my grandparents... Thats the point i think Troybill was making. I could be wrong though.. The fact is this country hasnt been this divided in decades IMO.

    __________________________________________________________________________________________
Tula, Okla. – Two men were arrested Sunday in a shooting rampage that left three people dead and terrorized Tulsa's black community, and police said one suspect may have been trying to avenge his father's shooting two years ago by a black man.

Police identified both suspects as white, while all five victims in the rampage early Friday were black.

This has already been talked about. Go to the top of page 5. If anything this goes to confirm what I've been finding is the case with journalism: if race is a factor in a crime, race will be mentioned in the article. If it is not, it won't be.

Me too. I feel so persecuted for being white. I get more traffic tickets, would get a longer sentence if ever convicted of a crime, would have to endure a group of people attacking me getting off for the crime, not being hired, not being allowed into places, and generally being considered inferior because I am a white male. I find it hard to endure.

I've posted a ton about politics and the Martin issue already.

"The only side claiming this is about politics, and not Trayvon, are conservatives who support Zimmerman. This issue has absolutely nothing to do with politics, and I think partisanship is clouding the right's judgment on this issue. If this is about politics, I would likely be defending Zimmerman. This is not about politics. This is an open case with facts available to us that has nothing to do with government policy. So far, you and phear, who have been stating falsehoods about this story, have mentioned the political angle here. That's interesting to me."

Get your head out of your ass. I stuck up for the side you are on and you are pissed, why? His main point was about black people, not Obama or Holder. I responded to his main point by calling him a racist, which I think is not in doubt based on prior posts. I have a record of being balanced on this forum. You, not so much.

Is the kind of car they drive, the clothes they wear, their approx age a factor? How do the reporters in the MSU case or the Sanford hammer assault case know race was not a factor? They didn't even have suspects in custody when they wrote those pieces

    Above, you write:

I agree with your last statement. However, although you have agreed with my side on this issue, I notice that you jumped on NO ONE for being partisan here as you do when you jump on someone that takes the liberal position. You did not get personal with someone on the conservative side as you do with someone on the liberal side of an issue. You did not jump on someone that somehow brought Holder and Obama into this conversation (see my quote above). Yes, you did defend the correct side. However, you attitude in doing so was very different than when you take the conservative side. However, you have no problem attacking me personally when I am on the other side. Take YOUR head out of your partisan ass, look in the mirror and see your hypocrisy.
