Dodger Stadium dugout club

  • spent a very nice evening at Dodger Stadium with dougout club access. You know, the secret part of the stadium with free prime rib, crab legs and oysters on the half shell. Nice meal before the game, great seats and a perfect LA evening.

Only bad part was the home team lost...but so did the Giants so no harm.

  • I like the Hanley Ramirez trade! Now my Red Sox are out of it I am cheering for the Dodgers all the way!

Red Sox are far from out of it. They are starting to get healthy and they are still right in the wild card hunt. Don't let last place fool you they are only like 2 games out of the wild card position.

  • I've been down there on a few occasions. My best friends gets us down there whenever we go to a game. Awesome time down in that area.

  • by the way if anyone is wondering how things have changed with the new owners, in the middle of the game a fan took a foul ball to the face and was pretty shaken up. Magic Johnson got up from his seat and went over to check on the fan himself and spend a little time with them. He then proceeded to sign a bunch of baseballs for kids. Class act.

I refuse to be optimistic with this team. Beckett just mails it in nowadays and Lester hasn't been right all season. We ain't winning a World Series behind Felix Doubront and Aaron Cook, alas. We'll get Dice-K off the payroll next year and start again.

That's a cool story. On my meager grad student stipend I tend to sit on the 3rd level but the new owners have created a really great, positive atmosphere these days.

Would have rather got Pence, who the Giants got.

  • Rather get Greinke, but they're adding 2 or 3 bats and a pitcher. That's huge.

They really f'ed this up, they have Kershaw and a bunch of back end of the rotation guys. Dempster would have been a good #2.

Atleast he's ending up in Texas. That means ZERO chance for the Angels to make a run at the division. Whenever the Angels hurt, I'm a happy guy.

Can't believe Colleti could only add a slumping Victorino to the squad by the deadline.

Even then, he could walk at the end of the season and giving up Lindbloom for a rent a player was too steep.

But do the Dodger lose the best? Are they gutty?

They should have tried like hell to get Dempster... trotting out Kershaw and Demp in the first few games of a playoff series would have them sniffing a title. Now, not so much.

Sounds like a fun time. Didn't even realize they had a dugout club access site with all of the fat cat amenities.

Quick question for you, though. Since you are interested in paying your fair share of taxes to the government, will you be declaring this as income on your taxes?

no, I will probably take after your favorite nominee and hide the evidence in an offshore account. Is it overkill to also start a corporation in Bermuda for this?

In what context do you think free tickets count as taxable income?

You would be best advised to seek the counsel of the poster boy of tax evaders, GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt, when it comes to starting foreign corporations with the sole intent of evading taxes.

Of course, you may have to wait a while for Jeffrey's response since I'm sure he will be tied up in his annual meeting discussing 'jobs' as chairman of the president's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness.

I'm sure that an Obama lackey who has successfully guided his company in avoiding paying billions of dollars in taxes would be able to point you to a useful loophole that would enable you to not pay your fair share while lecturing others on the need for them to pay their fair share.

Free tickets to employees: Taxable compensation?

by Ralph Peterson on April 8, 2010 3:00pm
    in Employee Benefits Program,Human Resources

    Q. We are in the travel business and our office regularly receives free tickets to sporting events (worth $30 and up). We typically give them to employees who want to use them. Is such a gift ethical? — L.L., South Carolina

    A. That depends on the ethical standards of your industry. The bigger concern is whether you must include the value of the tickets in employee compensation. That is, whether the value might be taxable income to the employees.

While that holiday turkey given to employees has generally been considered to be too de minimis in value to tax, a gift certificate to buy that turkey is another matter. The IRS has considered gift cards as taxable income. Other incentives, like paid cruises, also have been deemed taxable income.

How to account for the receipt of the tickets and their distribution to employees can be tricky, so consult your accountant or tax attorney. You can also look at IRS rules on fringe benefits at www.irs.gov/pub/irs-tege/fringe_benefit_fslg.pdf. Remember that if something is taxable to employees, the employer must also pay its share of FICA taxes on the gift’s value.

    Part 2

    Are event tickets taxable income?
Several elected officials have been receiving 2 "free" tickets to various events. The officials have not been receiving the tickets from their employer but rather from companies/entities that are engaged in a business relationship with the employer. The tickets are given to the officials as a direct result of being an elected official.

Are these "free" tickets taxable income? If so would the taxable income equal the face value of the tickets?

technically, YES. Income is any increase. While you probably wouldn't be caught by the IRS, you should report them.

Employees that get a prize from their employer that is worth over $25 is supposed to have it included in their W-2 (part 1 of the Enrolled Agent exam)
