If it represents him totally then the kid should have gone to the Dean and complained. Secret tapings and leaking to right-wing websites to gin up the right-wing noise machine to put USC and academia in general in a bad light is just not on. This kid should examine his conscience.
“Close tax loopholes that allow some of the truly wealthy to avoid paying their fair share,” Reagan vowed.
Looking at his ratemyprofessor.com ratings and talking to some students, he is pretty well liked in general and regarded as a good prof. The kid should have complained to the Dean, the Dean should have talked to the prof and told him that students in his class were uncomfortable and he needs to be more professional, and the world should have kept turning on its axis. As it is the school is being inundated with phone calls from people not at the school demanding the guy be fired when all they know is from an edited video supplied by someone with a disguised camera, an agenda, and a spot on O'Reilly. Emotion trumps logic again.
You're right. Going to the Dean with the recordings would have been the best first move. Only if the Dean did nothing would bringing it public have made sense.
I think the recordings are pretty weird. Just ask some fellow students and go to the Dean in a group saying that Prof X has created an uncomfortable learning atmosphere. The first thing to do is to approach the professor directly and just tell him that you appreciate he has his own opinions but the stridency and the way he expresses them is stopping you from learning. Instead I think this kid might be looking for his 15 minutes of fame despite the fact that everyone we can see from this man's record shows that he is generally regarded by an overwhelming number of students as a very good professor.
“While I am very candid and direct, I never say anything unless I am willing to have it repeated with attribution,” Sragow said to Fox News. “If he thought he was playing a dirty trick by taping me, it lacks creativity and the effort deserves maybe a C-plus.
If he is highly regarded at a school with a conservative student body like USC, it is likely that the video distorts his view. Again, I am curious to see how the school responds. That may give us some hint as to whether the tape was fair or not.
His classes are very mixed politically, as is USC more generally. As the school as got more competitive academically it has also become more liberal.
youre such a liar....it has never stopped you saying lies about me on the board. Youre "we don't know" bullshit, you don't know nothing about me and it does not stop your lies. Your just a liberal tool who calls himself a moderate
This is sad.
I did not post a fact (other than saying that we do not know the facts). How could I have lied about something in my post. FanofSC logic strikes again. Are you ever sober when you post?
Just leave him be. I don't think he's well possibly.
You're probably right. I should just ignore the nonsense. Probably should do the same with LowPoint and Gr8ythunter. Nothing meaningful can come from a discussion with them.
lol usc doesn't have a highly conservative student body anymore. times have changed, man, this ain't the 80's at usc anymore.
edit: not sure if you're saying the usc student body as a whole is conservative or if they just have a conservative student body present.

Interesting. I asked people on the old board, mostly conservatives, and they told me that they believe USC students tend to be conservative. It may depend some on the department though. It may also be what you alluded to, they may be thinking of the past.
lol it's a lot more liberal than it is conservative now. it may have been like that in the past up until the 90's, but that's definitely not the case anymore. there's a frat here on campus that's very proud of their conservative values and even hangs a confederate flag because they listen to everything mommy and daddy tell them and yet they're known as the biggest assholes on campus and nobody on the row likes them. times have changed for sure.
Find a respectable university with a conservative student body. Notre Dame maybe, otherwise they don't exist.
USC students are MORE conservative on average than most schools, especially in California, but still a very liberal-minded group of kids.
When I was there (graduated in 04), my estimate would be that it was about 60-40 Liberal vs Conservative.
If they hang a Confederate flag, people may hate them for reasons other than being conservative. Things may have changed as you state, but I am not sure that frat is a good indicator.

It's also my opinion that the frat system tends to be more conservative than liberal...at least much more so than the student body.
this is true. i would say it's about 50-50 liberal and conservatives regarding the row, while the student body is about 70-30 liberal to conservatives.
Sounds about right to me. Although apathy is probably the main winner. It isn't a terribly political campus. The College Republicans have some good folks who I like and whose heart is very much in the right place. Same with the Democrats and other liberal groups. This board could learn a thing or two from their dialogue.

Fox News just summarized a statement from USC's administration. Assuming they reported accurately, the video seems to fairly represent the Professor. The school stated that they support a Professor's right to free speech and it supports all types of views. I may have that slightly wrong, but that is the gist. If he was speaking at some forum, I would agree. If the class let students know that the class was a liberal view of the world (that seems unlikely to me), I'd agree. This was a class where I doubt students believed they were getting a liberal view of everything. Unlike a speech, they could not just choose to leave. I do not agree with the school here.
Could be worse!
A Cambridge University academic came under pressure to resign last night after students protested that he operates a website that features Nazi imagery, describes female immigrants as , with lower IQs than other races.
That is a lot worse, but it doesn't excuse the USC Professor.
No, sure. But it does take the fact that somehow some people regard this adjunct as national news to be a little weird. I wonder if anything will happen to the student.
