SIAP, but in case anyone missed it, Apple is recalling some first gen Nanos due to a problem with batteries overheating. Based on reports from consumers who received their replacement, you get a current gen 8gb version in the exchange.
It takes about 6 weeks to get the replacement. If anyone wants to know, I'll post again when I receive the new unit.
yes, I posted about this back in november when it was first announced. I got my new one, in exchange for a broken 1st gen that had been sitting around in a drawer in time for xmas.
The new ones are very cool. Double the memory of the 4 gig I returned, touch screen.....

about 6 weeks, but I literally submitted mine on day one, I would expect them to be faster now.

Took about six weeks. Not bad for getting a brand 8 gb nano for my 2 gb one that i rarely used. I ended up giving the new one to my daughter rewarding her for all her help with the babies. She was stoked because she only had a shuffle and i am stoked because if anything happened to it because she is still young i am not out the purchase price.
How is Apple's service?
I bought my wife an IPOD a few years ago and she never used it. When I went last month to try to put some music on it, it was completely dead and unable to charge. I assumed since it is loooooooooooooong past the warranty, it would probably cost more to repair it than it would to purchase a new one.

To follow up, I received my replacement yesterday via FedEx ground. As reported by others, it's a silver, current gen. 8gb Nano. Took exactly one month to get to me from the date I sent my 1st gen Nano off via FedEx.
i followed the link in your first post. they sent a Fedex pick up and it sat around here for a week before i hailed a Fedex truck at my neighbors. that was last Tues. and Apple sent me an email that it should be at my address this coming Tues,(20th). that's pretty quick! thanks again for the thread/link.
