It look certain that the sequestration is going to kick in tomorrow.
What should be expect? What will the impact be on GDP? Will the sequestration have any impact on the country's unemployment rate?
Will we notice at all that we gone over the "fiscal cliff"?

This is the type of thing that should be cut.
I have no issues with that. None at all....however, pilots and crews must have a certain number of flight hours to maintain skills. If these flyovers are coordinated so that the pilots are getting their mandatory training and flight hours for sustainment, then I have no problems with the flyovers. Remember, these decisions are not always cut and dry...there are always second and third order effects. Fact is, while I can't personally validate this, I'm pretty sure that those flyovers are scheduled as part of the pilots mandatory training missions.
If the purpose is training and the flyover is just a bonus that costs the government no more, then I agree that it is a good idea. I wonder if that is true though. The Blue Angels are not necessary for war. I wonder if that is a good way to spend limited resources to recruit.
You should check out our Joint Ethics Regulation...we have strict rules on how we use government resources.
I'm about to take command of a recruiting battalion this summer so we'll see how well we can recruit without the usual marketing tools. In fact, all of those recruiting dinners and stuff have been gone for years. No more freebies. There are always more than one way to skin a cat...but you'll have to sacrifice somewhere. The recruiting business isn't any different than the private sector. If you want the best, you have to show them what you have to offer them that nobody else can. I only want the best in the Army. They will be the ones protecting my family and yours...and representing our nation wherever they go. I don't want criminals and people who will get my organization (and yours) on the 6:00 news.
It's messy anyway you look at it. BOTH parties don't come off smelling particularly well after this. The intent of the sequestering was to force a deal between Republicans and Democrats. They BOTH failed. So the failure to do so falls on everyone in leadership positions in the federal government. And like we always say with respect to Lane Kiffin, it ALL STARTS AT THE TOP.
Join the fight for YOUR liberty!
I do think that the Blue Angels are on the chopping block. Sad, but true.
I agree that they may not be the best use of $$$ at this time. And this comes from someone who went to USC with the son of a Blue Angels commander/lead pilot.
However, our pilots need to run training missions, that is certain. We cannot sacrifice readiness for a few dollars here and there.
Actually Spirit...the way this legislature sees it...it ALL STARTS AT THE BOTTOM!
The only ones sacrificing are those who have the least. And it will affect everyone else sooner or later. Less money in consumers' pockets means less revenue in those communities and will either result in higher prices or layoffs.
Serious question for you...
I can imagine that recruiting has been very difficult while we have been at war. Between kids not wanting to get shot at and the chances of being deployed repeatedly to combat theaters, things cannot be very enticing to young people.
Now that we have pulled out of Iraq and are in drawdown mode in Afghanistan, has it gotten any easier? I am a big believer in the benefits that the military provides a young person who is not ready or interested in going on to college. The discipline, alone, is such a huge lesson that they learn and is applicable in or out of the military.
Since you are dealing with this on a daily basis, I would be interested to hear your perspective on this.
Agreed. They will feel it the most. The bullshit we've heard on the campaign trail about strengthening the middle class, blah blah, blah, just so ridiculous and insincere. These cuts will continue to erode the middle class. And eventually, as we can all pretty much surmise, we will be in a two-class system, which is exactly what the elitists have wanted for years.
