National Mall Open for Immigration Rally

  • Troybill said... (original post)

You are dancing around the subject. We are not talking about the Lincoln Memorial (which is a building). I am not sure what your point is other than to win some argument. Did you read my comment. I said they had cams at the sites. Yes of course the cams are managed. Go out to the WWII site sometime in the middle of the night and find a national park guy posted inside the WWII Memorial. They may patrol the area but do not position someone there physically. If your whole point is to win an argument by cherry picking an isolated truth in order to prove your statement is the truth that there is security without explanation of how it is offered, then fine you win. I am done trying to explain the niceties to you. We are arguing in circles. I do not want to play this anymore.

My point Bill is that the entire mall has security...ALL THE TIME. To pretend otherwise to score political points is childish. If you don't want to dance around it, then let my statement stand as truth.

The real issue is that the GOP, who has asked for this shut down. needs to shut up about with complaints of the consequences of their own actions. To Blame Obama when the GOP has been openly working towards a shutdown is BULLSHIT.

Mr Obama is without any fault. He is as pure as the driven snow. So it impossible that his targeting of vulnerable persons to make a political point it could possibly be his fault. Obama is using the targeting of areas to make this thing hurt to use as payback for the notion that our government could actually be accountable for a budget.

But the WWII memorial which is generally open 24 hours a day with no security is closed.

I wonder what the difference is Mr. President.

Sounds like the President is saying the Gov't is open for his friends and not for his 'enemies' (his word not mine)

The assumption that the President decided to open the mall for the rally is nonsense.

The cleanup of the rally was paid for by the city of Washington DC. I do not know if the city decided not to fund the opening (clean up or whatever other costs) of the monuments or if they did not even have the jurisdiction (I suspect the former, but I do not know), but the President had nothing to do with the decision.

He really is acting like a spoiled little rich kid. "If I can't get my way then nobody can get what they want".

I get why those on the left on this board are pissed at the GOP. What I don't get is why they don't care about this kind of childish, petty crap.

Regarding your last sentence, because people on the left did not make false assumptions based on their hatred of the President.

There is zero reason to believe as you do besides hate for the President.

If you want to talk accountability, talk about the republicans refusal to be accountable for what they spent. That is what the debt ceiling fight is all about.

There is something called the "Million Vet March" planned for October 13, 5 days after the Immigration Rally mentioned in the OP. It will be interesting to see if there are any differences any the access given to people participating in the two rallies.

I mentioned The Million Vet March last week. The event took place yesterday.

When I mentioned The Million Vet March, this type of reaction from some of the vets that took place is not what I would have been expecting to read the day after the event.

Veterans Angry Over Tea Party Takeover Of Mar

Organizers of the Million Veterans March sought to distance themselves from the s protests at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., criticizing tea party activists for taking over the demonstration.

I did expect to see a post like this in a article not worthy of the title journalism. They mention Cruz and Palin, but not one quote from what they said. The source was a face book page. I would expect more outrage. Like the non existent racial stuff after Obama care was pass.

I will had it to the liberals, they don't quit and they keep on spinning and lying.

I will give you a quote from Palin. It should underscore the typical conservative mind she has. She claimed that vets should not be used for politics while she, Cruz and Lee were........using the vets for politics.

How amusing. Cruz and Lee came out against the National Parks shutting down. They shut down the government and now come out and complain about the government shutting down. Again, conservative logic.

A follow up to this post.

At least one veteran at the event let Palin know that he felt she was an idiot.

  • Security or no security , the Libs do not see any preference or neglect being done here.

If the illegals were being restrained from attending a rally, you'd hear them screaming though (but not at Obama).

but the President had nothing to do with the decision.

How do you KNOW the president had NOTHING to do with the decision?

Your uninformed opinion is in direct conflict with Nancy Pelosi, who publicly made the following comment from the podium at the rally.
    --------------------------------------------------

Some of the speakers at the rally demanded President Obama give the same rights to everyone.

“Please open our parks and open this Mall to veterans and to normal everyday citizens who also should have the same access we enjoy here today,” said Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Florida Republican, as she joined the rally for immigration.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California, who followed Mrs. Ros-Lehtinen, defended the president, thanking him for making an exception to the shutdown and ***“enabling us to gather here.”***

Was Pelosi lying, or was she privy to information that you weren't?

I swear, it appears that you libs just make stuff up on the fly to defend Obama.

I have no idea what she was doing or the context of what you are quoting. However, the non-voting DC representative to Congress was on TV (I would think she'd know) claimed that the reason that DC was open for the rally was because the city was picking up the tab, not the federal government. Please note that several other places did the same thing. State governments picked up the tabs for the Statute of Liberty, Grand Canyon and some other parks. What the DC representative said is consistent with what happened all over the country.

Totally speculating, the President agreed to to allow states to pick up the tab for the other parks (e.g. Statute of Liberty). Perhaps Pelosi was thanking the President for allowing DC to pick up the tab for the march. I do not know that though. Unfortunately, I have never toured Pelosi's cranium and I do not read minds.

Picking up the tab is one thing. Granting visitors access to the grounds in general took permission from someone higher up than the DC govt, since it's federal property.

After all, video showed a fence on the perimeter of the mall stating "due to the federal government shutdown, this area is closed". That same video also showed streams of people ignoring it while walking towards the stage no police presence in sight.

A far cry difference than what we saw at the war Memorial when officers were ringing the barricades in a show of intimidation to keep people out.

As I explained, once states (or in this case DC) picked up the tab, the federal government allowed the parks to open for the extent that the jurisdiction was picking up the tab. If DC or someone else was willing to pick up the tab for the monuments, I am sure they would have also been opened as were other parks for which the tabs were picked up.
