This nonsense about the cliff has really made me pissed at the GOP. (So this ideal has merit.)
"Oh how interesting, who would have imagined — jailing bank execs.
We prefer letting our bankers keep all of the bonus money paid out for bogus deals, then let them walk away with millions more. On top of that, we keep distorting the economy and weakening the middle class by diluting any money they leave in the banks, while showering free money onto the entire banking system so that they can maintain their beloved lifestyle.
Gosh, the thought of jailing a banker just sounds so crazy. It’s as if they are actually being held responsible for the destruction they left in their wake of their greedy, self-centered, feeding frenzy. Go figure."
A Reykjavik court sentenced Glitnir’s former chief executive, Larus Welding, and former head of corporate finance, Gudmundur Hjaltason, each to nine months in jail, of which six months were suspended for two years. They had denied the charges.
Prosecutors said the two approved a loan to a company which owned shares in Glitnir so that the company could in turn repay a debt to Morgan Stanley.
The decision, taken outside the regular decision-making process, meant Glitnir was too exposed to the company and cost the bank at least 53.7 million euros (43 million pounds), the prosecution said.
Two former executives at an Icelandic bank which collapsed in the 2008 financial meltdown were sentenced to jail on Friday for fraud which led to a 53 million euro loss, in the first major trial of Icelandic bankers linked to the crisis.

Tous pour un, un pour tous
I think you were pissed at the GOP long before the words "fiscal cliff" were ever uttered.
The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen - Dennis Prager
Yes...But now i am really pissed off...
This is nonsense...admit it.
And actually when you consider the crap we are going through because of the bad behavior of bank executives. I am in favor of a few of them enjoying some time in the the grey bar motel.
At Santa Rita we'll leave the light on for ya!
It sucks that no one in our government with the power to do something like this is willing to do something like this.
I am arguing with Susan Olsen (Yeah that Susan Olsen...THINDY FROM THE BRADY BUNCH ON FACEBOOK) about all this nonsense. She is a friend of a classmate of mine from SC.
Apparently she is very conservative. She seems nice though.

You think all bankers are Republicans. Silly you. We have plenty of liberals working in Senior Management at all banks including Citibank, Wells, BofA, etc. Crooked management comes in all political stripes and offenders should be thrown in jail. Bank of America closed down a division (wholesale mortgage loans) that they made $1.2 billion on in 2010. Instead of selling it to management and making some money, they closed it down and allowed management to set up shop down the street. Dumb is still dumb.

Of course there are liberals among them, but are you seriously denying that senior executives at large banks on average do not tend to lean strongly to the right?

Investment Bankers and senior execs at Banks come in all political spectrums. He made a silly statement that implied that all bankers are republicans or lean right. It simply isn't true. I have worked with many Chief Credit Officers who are Democrats. And CEO's who are Democrats as well. They still work for a Board of Directors and stockholders that want to see a profit.
Is it any more wrong than claiming that the media is liberal, as conservatives (including yourself) constantly do?
Thieves are thieves - everyone in government, liberal or conservative, can't resist the dirty money.
Actually, I can think of one retired Congressman who walked the walk of integrity.... but he's outta there now!
Join the fight for YOUR liberty!
Yep. They don't make them like Dennis Kucinich any more.
I knew you'd chime in with something awful
Who Said all bankers were Republican?
I said if they did the wrong thing, THROW THEIR NARROW ASSES IN JAIL AND THEY WILL BE MORE PRUDENT NEXT TIME!
I like that old banker who used to tell somebody needing a loan to get their shit together and show me why you deserve it! Now all the Big Banks are run by Traders.
And Trading is essentially gambling.
There is a place for it. But not running the whole bank.
