Wish we could sort it out so non-VIPs could post without spammageddon.
I would love to see the non-VIP stuff sorted out.
I think we are about 6 or 7 weeks out from the start of the situation that led to the state of things as they stand now.

The whole situation is ridiculous. Use a captcha registration system and be done with it.
I shared my thoughts on the entire situation in a thread on the football board.
Something isn't quite right about this.
I know Scott doesn't read threads here, but a pm asking for the latest and linking here might be nice. I know he's busy with recruiting but it'll only get worse as we get closer!
I get the distinct impression that the existence of the OT board is viewed as a favor to us rather than something that helps win and keep customers for the site.
I miss Stank as well.
I agree, but are you that certain that they are wrong? I wish the site was free so that people like Stank (who I gather has to watch his money) can comment. However, this is a business and you hit the nail on the head. Does the OT forum win and help keep customers? I have my doubts. On the other hand, they can sell advertising space to more eyeballs. I would think that is a boost to revenue.
I think it does help win and keep customers. I know from my own experience that the OT board has been the only reason I've visited this site regularly at times, particularly during the post-Signing Day doldrums. Had there not been an OT set up here when the old WeAreSC site imploded, I would definitely have waited longer to sign up for a subscription.
The more people coming to this site, VIP or not, the better it is for business.
Screw that noise. WE are a favor TO THE OT BOARD!!!!
Join the fight for YOUR liberty!
having Stank post is worth the spammageddon

I heard it said that an OT forum is a luxury on a football board.
That is what this business is designed to be. A football board. A place where grown men and women can fawn over 15-17 year old boys (that almost sounds illegal).
Most football boards (99%) do not have an active OT forum or even one at all. It all started back in the early 2000's when TOS had a rivalry board. That rivalry board became the place to discuss stuff and not disturb the fawning on the football board. When that board had some major changes and moved to another network the next step was an OT board. And it grew into something pretty big, but not without headaches.
Instead of going to a board where single topics are discussed by people with a common interest in that one topic (politics, religion, abortion, gay marriage, financial, recent movie etc. etc. etc). It became a place where people with a common interest (Trojan Football) were able to share opinions on a plethora of subjects. That is very enticing and "I believe" gives a value added to the site.
Frankly, I wouldn't come very often if it was just a football site. I had less than 40 posts in the year+ I was here before there was an OT forum. There just isn't that much to talk about Football, and I'm not into fawning over boys. So I wouldn't be a likely customer for a football site...if not for the OT forum. And that really becomes the crux of the issue. ITS A BUSINESS that sells SUBSCRIPTIONS that pay its owners and operators. And as much as we OT Junkies (I think that's what we are called) think that we bring some value to the site. The reality is that there is easier money to go after for the site. As a businessman I can fully respect that. You always go for the lowest hanging fruit first. Now compound that with the amount of maintenance required for an OT forum? And you have a recipe for being lower on the list of things to get done.
Unfortunately the spam bots came and overturned the apple cart. Nothing in life lasts forever. I just wonder why the spam bots only hit the OT forum? I would think they would target the forum with the most activity to be the most effective if spam was their intent?
Oh well, the wife has enjoyed all the honey-do stuff I have been able to get done with my extra time.

"...an economy hampered by restrictive tax rates will never produce enough jobs or enough profits" JFK
i thought the stuff stank posted/linked was spam?
I have wondered about that and why the other 247 boards have been left alone. It makes me wonder if it was someone that is a Trojan or Trojan fan that is unhappy with the site (e.g. perhaps someone booted).
To us, yes. To the administrators that had to deal with it, probably not.

You know, there was some posters that used to post here that have the wherewithal and the knowledge to do such a thing. You would have to do some Force Recon to figure out who though.
Bring me my STANK!
First off, we don't know why the Spambots only hit FightOn247. And to the person who believes they only hit the OT board, you are so naive. They hit all boards heavy. They started with the main board and we spent hours cleaning it up. Made it VIP only.
Then the OT forum got hammered.....made it VIP only.
Heck even the Trojan News On The Net board is VIP only.
We left the Ticket Exchange board alone and in half a day had more than 100 pages, not posts, pages of spam. I had them delete the board until we can figure out a way to stop the spambots.
If you feel this some conspiracy by us to make money, you are mistaken. We definitely want all of our boards free......That's the facts.
My apology scott! I only saw them hit the OT board. And my point was more in line with Morethan, that someone with a vendetta for 247 (and possibly the OT here) could have set that up.
FYI, there is no need for their to be a conspiracy to make money. This is your business and it should support you that way. There is nothing wrong with that and having free boards is part of the process. There was nothing meant to imply anything nefarious.
I didn't think it was a conspiracy against OT because I saw the spam posts on the football board and in the ticket exchange. I didn't think it was some scheme to drive subscriptions either because the 247 response was to hand out free VIP subs. As for Area potentially being involved, I would imagine that he probably has better things to do.
The OT is not a priority, for obvious and understandable reasons. Others may not agree with me on the role an active OT can have in developing the subscriber base - I think the fact that the OT is still locked down weeks after a spambot attack is evidence of that and that's all I was trying to point out.
I'm currently a subscriber and I have no plans to stop subscribing. However, I do enjoy the site more and visit the site more often when the OT board is active.
You would think, but that didn't stop him from seeking "entertainment" in the past at a high level of participation. His ego alone would be enough impetus. Whatever the case, I'm confident my mere mention of it got him some wood by now.
I will agree though that I too like an active OT board. It brings some sanity after reading the football board.
Ok come on! I was joking! A down vote?
Must be another of those cowards that morethan is talking about it.
I have a hard time imagining someone cannot afford $10 a month for hours and hours of entertainment on here or the FB side.
I didn't realize Stank is one of those not willing to pay the $10 to post here.
I almost have come to believe that everyone participating should pay $10 a month which is about 30 cents a day.
One of the reasons Garry went under was lack of paying subscribers so in the end the WeAreSC board went over to ESPN.
I have read posts by a poster I will leave unnamed on the FB side saying how unimportant the OT board is to the whole forum.
There may be some truth in that but it is short sighted IMO as to me the OT board as Wake has said keeps people on board in the slow football times and as graphics has pointed out some of us don't need to know what cereal a recruit ate for breakfast.
The one I see missing and leaving a hole is the thread maker, my mind went blank on a name again, dammmm.
You know who I mean.
What about Gaucho?
I never get down voted ....
I miss the OT
