It seems likely to me. It underscores the problem of shooting without knowing at whom you are shooting. My opinion is that if his account is correct, it should be manslaughter under most state's laws. It is reckless to shoot at someone when you do not even know who you are shooting at, especially if someone else is rightfully in the house. Even under his account, he shouted to his girlfriend that he thought was in the bedroom and she did not respond. That should have been a hint. He could have kept the gun pointed at the door while she called the police (if it was not her in the toilet) and he could have waited to hear a response from her. None of us know enough about South African law to know what, if any, criminal liability there is for what he did even if we believe his story.

Triggerhappy MFer would fit right in at LAPD.
The difference is that the LAPD is supposed to be well trained professionals. He is not.
