A recent poll found that, on the eve of the State of the Union, 53% of Americans think we are in one today.
"...an economy hampered by restrictive tax rates will never produce enough jobs or enough profits" JFK
It is amazing that less than half of Americans understand what a recession is. Out of curiosity, what poll was that?
Then again, almost half of Americans do not know Obama's religion.
70% do not understand what the Constitution is.
More than a third do not know who is VP.

I'll agree! We have a bunch of idiot know nothings out there voting.
Look where we are today.
And 50% of Americans voted for Obama and think daddy govt is a good thing
The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen - Dennis Prager
Those tend to be the 50% that know that Obama is Christian, 30% that know the Constitution and two-thirds that know who is VP. Those that believe that Obama is a Muslim, do not understand the Constitution and don't know who is VP tended to vote for Romney.

Government has devolved to "by the uneducated, for the unwealthy"
Keep telling yourself that so that you can feel good and ignore the fact that the well educated tend to vote Democratic and the uneducated tend to vote Republican.
Just because Democrats tend to be more "educated" does not mean they've learned common sense
Typical conservative argument. You first write: 'Government has devolved to "by the uneducated, for the unwealthy" ' I then point out that your characterization of Democrats as "uneducated" is wrong. You then switch to "common sense." Of course, your logic of that is circular. If you have common sense, you vote Republican. Therefore, Republicans are the ones with common sense. Tell me how a group with a large part that believes Obama is a Muslim has common sense. Tell me why Fox News listeners are the most misinformed. Tell me why Republicans were so sure that Romney was going to win even though polls stated otherwise. Tell me why Republicans kept claiming that zero interest rates were going to create wild inflation. Tell me why Republicans repeatedly fall for the same nonsense on conservative talk radio.
Those 53% are called taxpayers, and they are in a recession with all the higher and new taxes that they have to pay. The other 47% are the ones Romney was talking about, they are sucking off the government teat and enjoying all their entitlements paid for courtesy of the taxpayers that feel like they are still in a recession.
You do realize that it is the unemployed that are much more likely to consider us in a recession, don't you?
Also, you believe those that are receiving their SS benefits that they paid into for years, veterans retirement benefits that they earned, minors and those in school to be sucking off the government teet? You must be a conservative.
There are no unemployed Americans, Bush was in office five years ago. Obama fixed the economy and unemployment with the stimulus. How could people that don't exist think that we are in a recession? I know that you are not possible suggesting that Obama has not fixed the unemployment problem and is focusing his efforts on the wrong things.
Those who work for a living are being outnumbered by those who vote for a living.
He fixed it the only way a Socialists knows how...get rid of workers. 4 million jobs created outnumbered by over 8 MILLION who have left the workforce.
The last budget that did not have "stimulus" attached to it was the 2008 Federal budget set at $2.8 Trillion. Obama added nearly $1 trillion to the 2009 budget and it became the new baseline for spending, so every single year since 2008 we have spent $1 trillion more dollars than any previous budget. That means the "stimulus" added up to $4 TRILLION, not the $1 Trillion claimed.
And we have 8 million fewer workers in the workforce to show for it. more "green" companies going belly up on Uncle Sam's dollar and a deficit heading toward $20 TRILLION before this president leaves office.

Sorry. My mistake. I thought I was discussing this with someone that had some understanding of reality and history. Your sarcasm is so out in lunar orbit, I do not even know where to begin to respond. I guess that is what I get trying to discuss something with someone that does not allow reality to get in the way of his thinking.

I realize that you never allow reality to get in the way of your posts, but more private sector jobs have been created during Obama's presidency than eliminated. Unfortunately, government has been laying off, contrary to history and what Democrats want at a time of recession.
Obama added 1billion? You have no clue. He did start including the wars in the budget, unlike Bush. Bush swept that under the rug. I.e., you consider being honest about expenditures increasing the budget? How conservative. The other main increases in the budget are SS, Medicare (I know, Obama caused people to age), unemployment, food stamps and welfare. Other than extending unemployment benefits, Obama did not create any new program. Bush blew up the economy and those things increased. However, even with the safety nets (unemployment, food stamps and welfare) other than entitlements, SS and Medicare, Obama has increased spending less than Reagan or either Bush. He has decreased spending per capita in most area in which he has discretion. Nice try though.
what I read from the bureu of labor statistics is
11.6 million unemployed / 7.6%
12.3 million unemployed / 7.9%
(they don't count farm jobs somehow in those numbers)
Put aside that farms have done well. Notice that the majority of jobs lost were from January - March of 2009. Were those Obama's fault? How about the several hundred thousand before he was even sworn in during January 2009? Even if you hold Obama responsible for those, my post above is correct. Notice, your figures include those laid off by government. Government jobs, especially at the state level, have been shrunk quite a bit. That is why we still have high unemployment. In previous recessions, government hired a lot rather than laying off. That ripples through the economy. One can argue that it was the right thing to do when government laid off, but then don't whine about the results if that is what one wanted as a conservative.
That is simply NOT TRUE. Only four million jobs have been created while 8 million have left the workforce. There are actually FEWER workers working now than at any point during the Bush administration. And these are not child laborers or retirees. The single largest group of job losses and fewest number of gains is in the 25-48 year range.
It is ONE TRILLION and it was the stimulus. The NEW 2009 BUDGET with the added TRILLION became the new baseline and all of the following budgets have been based off the budget that had the ADDED TRILLION
2008 - 2.8 T
2009 $2.4T (initially) - then expanded to 3.6T
2010 - 3.8T
2011 - 3.7T
2012 - 3.9T
2013 Projected - 4.1T

reality: 53% of Americans think we are in a recession today. Liberals believing after five years of economic failures that things are going to change live in a seperate realty.
