Will The Trojans Show Interest In Kylie Fitts?

  • He was offered today by Notre Dame. SC is still his favorite and I think he would commit on the spot if offered.

Based on what I've heard, this may be precisely why USC has not offered a number of kids just yet. Especially the local kids. With the limited number of schollies, the staff may want a bit more time to evaluate ALL their options at each position of need, have their high value targets attend a few more camps, and then pull the trigger on those that truly fit with what the staff is seeking... not just in sheer talent, but in their ability to add to the superior chemistry being formed within our current team.

Highly likely that local kids that grew up dreaming of being a Trojan are going to need to exercise a bit of patience, while also being willing to demonstrate to the staff exactly why they think they deserve one of only 15 scholarships.

  • We don't have to offer yet but it sounds like Coach O could send him some love.

  • Just a follow up on what Scott said: Kylie did sound disappointed that he didn't get an offer and that he didn't get more words from his potential D-line coach, Ed O, on Junior Day.

Coach O did reach out to Fitts a couple days ago and told him to attend camps (Nike LA, Rising Stars), and they'll probably really evaluate him from there.

Fitts is currently working to improve his speed in the offseason

He holds offers from Oklahoma (who recently offered him), Ole Miss, and Boise State.

  • My humble opinion, but based on what I am gleaning from the several threads on Fitts, his disappointment is misguided, and it sounds like his parents have not helped in that regard..

the young man needs to understand that USC offers don't just fall in ones lap solely BECAUSE you attended a USC camp.

  • All these recruits want attention. Hopefully USC will provide him with that be it with letters or whatever, between now and the camps.

  • The kid is just incredibly solid. 4.3 gpa, runs a 4.8 40. Really working on fast twitch drills. On top of all that is a high character kid. Parents are solid too. Don't read too much into stuff into their comments. They definitely want him in the area so doubt he goes out of state.

With limited schollys to hand out it will be difficult to offer all the local kids who would love to be Trojans but this is a kid with incredible work ethic on and off the field. He will probably have to xamp and play his way into an offer.

I don't think his disappointment is misguided, I just think it's been blown out of proportion. He probably thinks that he's the best defensive end in the state and that he deserved an immediate offer. A few people on this site do as well. It doesn't mean he's upset with our staff, he's just upset that he didn't get offered. To me, it sounds like he just wants to be at USC really badly and he thinks he deserves it.

The staff probably thinks very highly of him, but we have a more pressing need for WDE than SDE's. Townsend and Williams will fill that role in 2013. We haven't offered one SDE, but we've offered 4 WDE's. If we do need a SDE, there's a chance that our staff decides to make Joe Mathis (assuming we land him) into a SDE instead of offering two California kids. There's always a damn good chance that we land an out of state defensive end. With 15 spots, we shouldn't offer anyone we don't need.

Then maybe the coaching staff should stop telling 400 kids to come to camp for further evaluation and just focus on the top players in the country for the most needed positions with the "15 " limited slots that need to be filled. They already know who they really want. They've already offered those guys! Yes, Kylie is one of the best, and can obviously go just about anywhere. He was probably told by coaches that they really want him at USC, but when he got there on Junior Day that's not how he was treated, that was probably disappointing. I am sure he and a lot of other kids would love to play at USC, and they will be good enough somewhere. Once they realize that, their focus can be directed towards other schools that have "already" offered them and they can get their education and play ball! So many other opportunities out there, with less limitations, and more forthright coaches. They need to stop BS....ing these kids they are telling to "come to our camp", we want to get to know you better, we need to evaluate you further.
That is a bit dishonest in itself. Integrity from the coaches is just as important as from the prospects. Just as coaches want to be sure they are making no mistakes, the kids should be doing the same.

Sounds like you need to educate yourself on the recruiting process because you're obviously ignorant to how it works exactly. Take a deep breath because you seem a little emotional. Your post is filled with "probably this' " and "probably thats", no facts just speculations

Telling a kid to camp or wait until May because they need further evaluation does not equall USC BSing kids. It means exactly what it is, they need to see more. There's no hidden agenda or ulterior motive. If they're completely sold on a kid then they'll offer but its a different process for out of state kids then it is for in-state kids.

Just look at this past class. Not every player that signed with USC earlier this month had offers before leaving junior day. Guys like Tuerk, Starr, cope fitzpatrick, seymour, pinner, wheeler (didn't get his offer to much much later) were all told to camp... for what reason?...to be further evaluated. Now ask those guys if the coaches were just "BS....ing" them? Its FAR FAR from dishonest , or showing a lack of integrity by the coaches. In fact, its the complete opposite as they are being completely honest with the players. Its better then "offering" those guys just for the hell of it, and then pulling the offer later because they realize the player doesn't really fit what they're looking for. Does jaydon mickens and jordan payton ring a bell? Early offers to kids that didn't fit.

Recruiting isn't for everyone, especially those who get too emotionally attatched and disappointed by the lack of attention/offer an entire year before the next signing day. Once again, take a deep breath and calm down.

Probably do need to educate myself, never pretended I was educated in the process. Ignorant I am not, emotional either. I don't know Kylie Fitts, but from the posts I'm reading , I still say integrity is important. How much do they know about these out of state kids that have been offered beyond watching their film? How many of those kids were told to come to camp? And lastly out of my own ignorance, which Star rating are they using to evaluate these kids, 247, Rivals.com? Because the ratings on many of these kids doesn't match from one site to the other. Maybe you would be so gracious as to educate me on the process in which I am obviously so ignorant in. But soliciting 400 campers with only 15 slots just doesn't add up to me, especially when there are already 44 offers on the table. By the way, I am calm, just voicing my opinion.

First, I never said you were ignorant personally but ignorant to the recruiting process and how it works. I probably could of used a better word but I admittedly was a little agitated in your insinuation the coaches are somehow dishonest and/or lacked integrity for asking kids to camp for further evaluation.

Like I said in my previous post, offering OOS recruits is a completely different process then offering in-state. Coaches have to be completely sure of the in-state recruit because of the great possibility they commit on the spot. Whereas OOS recruits will not (and in most cases can not) commit on the spot...at least not without having visited first. Lets just call many of the OOS offers a guage of interest for both sides. Of course, there's a lot more to be considered when offering oos vs instate kids but thats just one.

Anyway, that explanation may have went a little over your head especially if you believe the coaches use the star ratings from recruiting sites to evaluate recruits. Lets just say the coaches put hundreds of hours in evaluating and recruiting these kids, so they dont need much help. A little heads up here and there but they do more than their share of homework. I also wouldn't call it soliciting 400 kids. Trust me most of these kids do not have to be solicited by USC. Many are just gracious to get a letter.

Recruiting is an intricate and fluid process. For anyone that followed kyle murphy, peat, williams, etc recruitment by USC understands this. Again, sorry if you think I called you ignorant personally. I didn't, I just believed throwing out the word dishonesty in regards to asking recruits to camp as ignorant to the recruiting process.

These camps are used as a weeding out process. For ANY kid to be upset that he did not get the attention that he wanted in FEBRUARY 2012 when they do not get to sign their LOI until FEBRUARY 2013, is probably expecting a little too much. Especially if you're a local kid.

The staff is going to spend more time with an OOS prospect this early in the process...that's just the way it is. Kylie will have multiple opportunities to speak with the staff throughout the year.

Thank you for the education and apology. I too apologize for insinuating dishonesty on the parts of the coaches. May have been a poor choice of words related to my own observation and opinion. I just felt that being honest upfront and telling these kids, they don't fit in USC's plan, or they aren't at the performance or skill level the coaches are looking for is better for all concerned. In many of the articles I have read since Junior Day a lot of those kids state to the writer that they will be evaluated at camp and probably get an offer. Of course that can't be true. Whatever the process, which is obviously very competitive and requires a lot of thought and time, I just believe these kids deserve The best! And the truth.
