Why is the NCAA taking so long to approve J. Shaw?

  • Does anyone have any idea why its taking the NCAA so long to approve Josh Shaw? Is this one of those NCAA being selective/impartial kind of things? It makes no sense to me how Carlisle was approved so quickly to play at ND, and here we are still waiting for the NCAA to approve Shaw. The NCAA is ridiculous.
Also anyone know what's going on with Coach McNair's vs. the NCAA?

Because the NCAA is absolutely seething at the fact that their near Death Penalty sanctions did not bring the mighty USC to its knees.

Someone has undoubtedly contacted Paul Dees for unsavory advice on how they can possibly twist this simple decision into a three-year-long drawn out process that ultimatley extends and piles on to the original sanctions.

  • The fact that Carlisle's waiver was 1) approved at all 2) done so quickly is an absolute absurdity

For real, there was no basis for approving Carlisle's waiver (the NCAA had to love the fact that he transferred from USC) and there seems to be no reason why Shaw's shouldn't be approved. Just a big F U to USC.

Agree. I'm still stunned he was cleared, but even more shocked at the lack of media focus seeking clarification for the reasoning behind that decision.

Having said that, it's probably best we hold our angst down to a slow simmer for now. For all we know, Josh's family may not have gotten the NCAA all the medical information they need on his grandfather in order for them to make an informed decision.

Perhaps Scott can snag an interview with Josh to find out the current status.

  • The thing that bothers me with the NCAA is that this should have never taken this long. They approve Carlisle so as to allow him to partake in spring practices, but delay J. Shaw, which kept him from being able to get involved since spring practices started. Its ridiculous it took them this long. However, I am happy he was approved though a bit late.

Not true, he's been out because of a broken rib. Had nothing to do with the NCAA, that's only for games.

Hey Alonzo, thanks for the info. For some reason I thought the NCAA's pending decision was the reason he couldn't practice. I hope he gets well...seems we've had a lot of players hurt this spring.

No prob, those rules get tricky. Hopefully these injuries blow over by the fall.
