They need to get this guy in some capacity. The players love him. HE was tough, but they knew he cared and they knew he could teach them. They all felt he was trying to make them better. He related very well. Quite possibly was the most popular coach on the staff in the players eyes and that is saying a lot. I know USC wont take him because I dont think they want to make Monte look bad because he was the reason Joe left in the first place.
Priest Willis dad did say that they loved Joe Barry and would probably have USC as the leader if Joe was still here. This guy was a great and very undervalued recruiter.

Would it look that bad if he came back?
What if Hazelton follows Monte to Dallas? There would be an open LB coaching spot to fill.
The Charger staff got let go. So, he needs to work and could come back to a place he feels comfortable.
But, frankly, I couldn't care less if it makes Monte look bad. We just need good coaches and great recruiters on this staff.
If Barry were open to coming back, I definitely would welcome him back.

Sorry man. Just trying to bring you guys some player related realities. I have been saying that Monte did a lot more damage than people realize.

In a way, I think we're lucky. We lost Barry, but you have to wonder how close Sanders came to walking, given the micro-managing that went on on defense. Even Coach O must have suffered some serious headaches working for MK.

the only thing that will make Monte look bad is a good defense. If Lane is not resolved to improving the defense, then the hope gets pushed onto the offense. Based upon Wittek's play, our ineffective offensive line, Woods moving on and Redd being our main back, I don't see how our offense is going to carry us.
Q: how is our offense going to score next year?
I see a lot of three and outs. Our defense will be on the field a lot next year.
Would love to see Barry come back. I actually pegged him to eventually be the head coach of SC. Albeit in 5-10 years.

If we are seriously not going to hire a good coach because we're afraid it makes a former coach look bad, then Lane deserves everything that could come his way at the end of the '13 season.

IF that's the reason then I have to agree. You hire whoever is best for the team. Period.
Problem is, we (or at least I) don't really know if that's the reason with any modicum of certainty. Maybe FK does?

Totally agree. I am in that same group whose inside info comes solely from this board, so emphasis on the "if" for me too.
