Were you guys after DJ Martin?

  • DJ Martin
    Rivals: Unranked nationally, #24 RB
    Scout: 3 star, #34 RB

    Justin Davis
    Rivals: #34 nationally, #5 RB
    Scout: 5 star, #3 RB

Looks like Scott isn't the only person who thinks Davis is a better prospect than Martin.

i doubt the ducks backed off yesterday b/c of his issues. they backed off b/c he apparently committed to another school.

usc cannot take chances on kids like that with schollie # limitations. too bad.

Justin released an article Sunday saying they would not recruit him

Well the duckies sure did write a article about how they dropped Martin due to off the field issues. Im not saying that the ducks had a shot at him anyhow, but they acted as if they cut lose with DJ.

They must have grown tired of laptop thiefs, woman beaters and druggies.

They have had a little more than their fair share of character issue guys.

LFK, CKP, and CCH also agree with SS. That's all that matters.

    Best Rb in the state.

I agree with the coaches, that distinction goes to Justin Davis. Personally I dont think its close between davis and Martin

  • A lot of poster talks about Martin's punishing running style as a big plus, and I may be looking at the wrong highlights or something, but I don't really see it.

In that offense he's in a lot of times they're faking one way outside and then go back inside with Martin and by then most of the defenses has gotten suckered outside and he just runs through a gaping hole. Similar to Ty Isaac, but I prefer Isaac because of his size.

I don't trust the Ducks or Chip. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that Martin gave them the courtesy of letting them know he was going to commit to Cal and they responded by advising the media that they weren't recruiting him any longer.

Just like when Hopkins posted multiple articles saying the Ducks had stopped recruiting Arik Armstead when it looked like he was heading to Cal. Their fans on the board actually believed the coaches had higher priorities on the D-line.

    Here is one:

    http://oregon.247sports.com/Article/Did-Oregon-miss-on-Armstead-53290

    Did Oregon 'miss' on Armstead?

It's been a wild week for Oregon recruiting. If you have been reading the countless updates on Duckterritory you've seen some pretty breaking news regarding DeForest Buckner, Arik Armstead and D.J. Foster among others.

Last night we first reported that defensive line coach Jerry Azzinaro would be in Pleasant Grove (Calif.) to see Arik play his basketball game. He in fact made it to the game but only stayed until half time and left.

Coach Azzinaro and Guss Armstead, his father, spoke briefly as they watched.

I reported earlier this week that Oregon was beginning to cool on Armstead and they have continued to show minimal interest. The fact is Chip Kelly didn't even do an in-home with Arik and the impromptu visit from Azzinaro was not an "out of the park" affair the Ducks would have needed.

If Oregon was to put an emphasis on Armstead they would more than likely be the team to beat, but the truth is they simply haven't.

Chip Kelly made a long, out-of-the-way flight to Hawaii to meet with defensive end DeForest Buckner who recently visited. The feeling is the staff is pushing hard for Buckner and the inside word is he may be near a commitment.

Last night Azzinaro assured Guss Armstead Oregon would hold a spot for Arik, but that won't matter now. If Arik signed anywhere but Cal as his early deadline approaches, I would be completely shocked. Tosh Lupoi has been relentless in his recruitment of Arik which will likely pay off with the signature from the nation's No. 1 overall player.

Then he wrote another. It's VIP, but below the link is the jist of it...

    http://oregon.247sports.com/Board/45/Is-Oregon-cooling-on-5-star-Armstead-6208013

Is Oregon cooling on 5-star Armstead?

Sources tell me they are in fact cooling a bit on the nation's No. 1 recruit. The feeling is they are just as happy with DeForest Buckner.

Only one I have seen is 7 on 7 tape against Darreus Rogers last year. Johnson shut him down and was in his head something awful.

Its on TOS-R. It is Premium or I would link it.
