USC recruits soaring up in rankings.

  • Per TOS-S

Max Browne from #5 Overall to #3 Overall.
Sua Cravens from #6 Overall to #5 Overall.
Kenny Bigelow from #31 Overall to #8 Overall. Made the biggest jump after one camp.

    Others are:
    Isaac Ty #14 Overall
    Justin Davis #18 Overall
    Michael Hutchings #27 Overall
    Priest Willis #33 Overall

Rankings are really non-factor in a college game but as a USC fan got to be happy with quality of players we are getting.

  • I think it's the SC factor ,once a recruit attach the SC logo besides their name they receive the benefit of the doubt based off our coaches recruiting history and talent evaluation, after all they are better suited for judging talent than the stiffs sitting behind the desk whom most have never played on a collegiate level are played football at all for that matter it's all youtube highlite reels for them nothing else.

The inverse is true for MaxPreps and ESPN...Once a player commits to USC, they slide down the rankings...

Not for Scout. Scout is actually very pro UCLA leans and the west coast because BRO is one of their biggest sites and Huffman and Biggins play a big role in BRO.

Love to see USC prospects ranked highly, but Scouts rankings are pretty bad when compared to Rivals or 247.

True, but they're still infinitely better than espn's crap.

HATERS!!! wheres the professionalism these days ?everyone has an agenda and a bias towards the team/conf. of their choice it's a damn shame.I LOVE OUR STAFF ABILITY TO FIND ''DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH'' like ML#9 etc.

  • Athlon sports does a composite rankings where they take the rankings of all the different rankings websites. This seems like one way to deal with some of the bias problems that people complain about with different rankings websites. My guess is that USC will end up with at least 3 of the top ten players in the country by this measure.

  • Having a high ranking is a nice honor, but a ranking by some website can be political and doesn't always determine a player's success...More importantly than the rankings of all the websites are the evaluations of our staff. Regardless of the rankings, I'm confident in the evaluations of our staff and they have been doing and are continuing to do an excellent job! FIGHT ON!!!!!!!

Pretty bad sometimes (Scout). Maybe. However, I agree with them this year in this:

    May Browne #1 QB

Ty Isaac #1 RB (Neither 247 or Rivals has Isaac as number one RB. To that I say huh? confused Also, Isaac is 4-stars with 247 and Rivals confused but 5-star with Scout

Justin Davis #3 RB (higher than both 247 and Rivals). Also, Davis is 4-stars with 247 and Rivals confused but 5-star with Scout

Michael Hutchings (4-star with 247 and Rivals and 5-star with Scout).

In any case, it’s not just because I want SC commits or leans to be ranked higher. I just think IMO the aforementioned are underrated; but really, other than that, it’s not a big issue to me. The players the coaches want are top notch!

  • 24/7 has the best recruiting info (due to SS) and Rivals has the best rankings.

    For recruiting evaluations I'd say: Rivals > Scout >>> ESPN / 24/7

  • This is the first year in a decade where scout ranks our players more generously than the other sites. Despite the stereotype, ESPN consistently ranks USC recruits higher than scout by signing day.

I would love to see some numbers to back up that claim....

  • I tend to follow Scout and Rivals on the rankings through the years.
ESPN and 24/7 seems all over the place.

It gets no better than SS for your insider USC info though.

My pleasure, on our current roster, of the players ranked by at least two of the four major sites (scout, rivals, espn, 247), here is the ratio of each site that ranks our player highest or lowest respectively.

Rivals, 23 players ranked highest, 11 ranked lowest
247, 10 players ranked highest, 6 ranked lowest
espn, 20 ranked highest, 23 ranked lowest
scout, 13 ranked highest, 21 ranked lowest

ESPN ranked these players higher than any of the other sites (there are a whole bunch I'm not listing)
    Matt Barkley #1 overall
    Antuan Woods, #33 overall
    Cyrus Hobbi, #34 overall
    John Martinez, #41 overall
    Kevin Graf, #43 overall
    DJ Morgan, #44 overall
    Jesse Scroggins, #55 overall

Interesting....but there are different ways to decipher the data. While ESPN may have ranked some of the players the highest, they also ranked the most players lowest at their position.

Regardless, at the end of the day, I only care about how they perform once they're on the field for USC

  • Rivals has the best rankings, SS has the best info & board, and 247 has the best mobile interface, BY FAR

All of those players except for Morgan I believe played in the Under-Armour AA game, so it isn't surprising that they were ranked higher.

Scott tells us who the coaching staff likes best and they have the best rankings. I could care less what anyone else thinks.

You are right. The offers that the coaches give is more important than a ranking system. J.R. Tavai had no stars when offered, he finished with three stars. He is a starter.

Agreed. CLK's big board is by far the best evaluating system around.

Eagle Rock has gotten really nice I hear... ESPN rankings are very inconsistent.. I like Athlon consensus best.

And don't forget the year ESPN's top 3 players were all Trojans (McNight, Gallipo, Tyler)
