  • The USA Today poll had 'some' credibility.............about 10 years ago.

Haven't researched, but are the coaches selections available for public consumption now?

  • This is perfect! Since the #3 ranking is lower than any other preseason poll so far, it might actually put a chip on the teams collective shoulder.

  • 1. LSU 2. Alabama 3. USC 4. Oklahoma 5. Oregon 6. Georgia 7. Florida State 8. Michigan 9. South Carolina 10. Arkansas

    Only 5 SEC teams?

  • Interesting that USC recieved 19 1st place votes, Bama had 20 and LSU 18. The votes were also taken before the addition of Redd. I dont mind the ranking at all and hope it does out a chip on our shoulder.

  • Love it, would also appreciate if the media gave the defending champs #1 too in the AP. Coaches Poll was voted on before Redd, not sure if it would have made a difference. Have a feeling the AP will have SC #1 though, bc it makes for a more interesting storyline.

I hope the AP puts us at 4 or 5. Just make that chip even bigger.

  • And Stanford comes in at #18. With games vs. Duke and SJ St. not sure how much they can move up before we play them.
Was also hoping that Utah would be ranked and looks like Washington just missed out on the #25 spot.
Hopefully Oregon can move into a top 3 or 4 slot before we play them in November...

Also, looks like CLK is a voter (see bottom of page on attached link) as well as 5 other Pac-12 coaches:
    Mike Leach, Washington State
    Mike Riley, Oregon State
    Rich Rodriguez, Arizona
    Steve Sarkisian, Washington
    Jeff Tedford, California

LSU edges Alabama, USC for No. 1 in USA TODAY Sports poll - USATODAY.com

USC is third in return to poll after two-year ban. There are seven teams from Southeastern Conference appearing in Top 25.

To me, the fact that the coaches vote at all is a joke.
Talk about the biggest conflict of interest in the history of the world.
That would be akin to a murder trial having family members of the accused on the jury.
The sooner the 4-team playoff and "selection committee" come, then better.

    What an absolute joke.

I have no problem with LSU at 1.

Bama at 2 is too high given their losses on D, and UGA @6 is an absolute joke. They beat NO ONE last year, and lost in ATL to Boise.

The biggest thing they have going for them this year is their schedule.

This is already set up for another incestuous SEC gangbang unless SC can go unbeaten and put an end to this madness.

If Bama's only loss is to LSU, or UGA goes undefeated until the SEC title game, USC will have to be unbeaten to make the NC.

I've been assuming that would be the case for a while, but seeing these rankings, the SEC SEC SEC bias is even worse than I thought it would be this year.

  • SC just has to take care of their own business... it's cool that the majority of the coaches are jealous of Coach Kiffin... just gives the Trojans a little something to get them up early every day and follow the mantra of "PREP NOT HYPE"!

    TrojanzFreak

  • Don't need to focus on anyone but USC. Avoid preseason #1 and earn it halfway through the season. Keep #1 through the season. Prep not hype.

    Tmon123

  • I bet the team can care less where they are in the polls right now, they just want to go out there and beat the living hell out of everybody!!!

There is noway in hell USC should be number third.I'm totally fine with not being number one but third? We better not lose a game that's all I have to say.

  • I actually prefer that the team not be ranked preseason #1 . We have seen it before, how the #1 team has a HUGE target on its back. Everyone and their mother plays the game of their life trying to knock out the #1 team.

this^^^^ exactly although none of the coaches actually watches the other teams play.it's speculation at best.

Contrast the 5 PAC12 voters plus 3 small CA schools to the 7 SEC coaches, plus 8 more coaches from small schools in SEC states like Tulane, MIddle Tennessee, etc.

15 of the voters are from SEC states (I'm not counting guys like Dabo or Al Golden.)

That's nearly 1/3 of the voters. No wonder why there is so much SEC bias.

Bad enough that the media slobbers all over the SEC constantly. This poll is ridiculous.

The best thing I can say about this poll is that it will no longer be relevant starting in 2014. Bring on the selection committee!

And it's not event he actual coaches voting.

They should call it the SID/ strength coach/ favorite huntin' dawg poll, because that's who is really casting the votes.
