USC has notified Penn State of Interest in RB Silas Redd

    Very interesting and careful parsing of words in that statement.

    Take some pressure of his son, who has probably been getting bombarded with calls, texts and tweets from friends, teammates and PSU people since the news leaked of him being interested in SC.

    This will hopefully give him some breathing space and time to think.

    Getting Redd is going to be like SC pulling a kid out of SEC country on NSD has been in the past- keep it quiet until it happens.

    Hopefully things quiet down now and he takes a quick trip out to SC for a visit.

    On TOS-S, a 2013 TE commit mentioned that all the recruits are calling eachother to try to keep the class together. I expect that the players are doing the same, but quietly trying to figure out what's best for themselves.

    Imagine yourself being a quality RB with NFL aspirations and not knowing whether or not you will have a quality OL blocking for you five weeks from now.

    I'm guessing the skill position players are keeping a close eye on the OL players to see which way they're leaning.

    Besides the fact that this is true, I can't help thinking that he was also talking to Redd with this statement.

    They still have to find a way to drop 20 kids and get to 65 before the season begins. There has to be some transfers and some commits have to look elsewhere

    so it will be similar to SC this year, with players transferring for various reasons on their own. But really to get us down to 75

    If I remember right, the roster has to be at 75 this year and the 65 next year.

    I am almost certain it doesn't. I know the limitations on scholarships doesn't start until next year.

    This is correct. Penn State needs to start the 2013-2014 season at 65.

    They are 80 now with 14 SRs.

    They will need some transfers to bring in a small FR class. The unused ones can be rolled over as EEs.

    Redd's name was brought up in rebuttal in conjunction with Hackenberg and Johnson (both 2013), in the thread that said there were no players USC would recruit prior to the sanctions announcement. Insofar as 2013, given his good academics, strong family support (Dad ex-Marine), and 1000 yard season last year, there was an assumption at PSU, that he would leave for the NFL after 2012 and prob have finished his degree. So there might not be any reduction of the 75 in 2013. Still props to the Cat for breaking news of USC's intent

    Thank you gents, although I didn't break anything. I've been very pleasantly surprised that my pipe dream has turned into something that has gained as much momentum as this has over the past 48 hrs... now here's to hoping now that it goes from that to reality in short order peace
