USC VS LSU

  • what are your thoughts on this match up for the BCS Tittle? I know it is early still, I think LSU would win in a close game, although USC can throw deep down the field with your WR's being over six feet tall. I think in the end LSU would be too balanced for USC to stop. The game could go either way here, USC could win this game if our D can't match up with USC'S wr's deep and throw in RB's and Matt B under center this could be the game for the ages. What are your thoughts??cheers

No "offense", however, out here on the west coast we refer to "balanced" as having an offense. LSU simply does not have a balanced offense,

Just my opinion, however, USC, would throttle LSU...just like they do to every other OOC high profile team they play.

I think losing Brockers ,Claiborne, and Taylor will really hurt.

Your offense was a joke. Sure, you've got a JUCO coming in, but you will struggle to throw the ball. Nice power running game though.

I would absolutely love to face you guys or Alabama. We will hang half a hundred on anybody.

College Football needs this game to happen! I think it'll be tough for LSU to cover USC WRs +TEs w/Barkley throwing to them. LSU's running game and D-Line will be a force though but I would go with USC by 10 in the end.

  • LSU has a kick ass defense, no question...offense? Middle of the road from what we see...but who knows, we haven't seen the 2012 version - of either team.

I like the matchup actually, our offense will give your defense a run for it's money, a lot of skilled players to cover, your D will see a lot of talent spread out across the field, who are you going to cover, and who are you going to leave uncovered?

And there is this guy named Barkley.

Our defense may not be what you consider "SEC quality", but the youth and speed from last season, is a year more experienced...your offense is far from dominating, compared to what we see all the time.

    Who knows though?

*Guess it took me too long to post, you guys covered it, lol.

"SEC quality" defense is an urban myth. Their defensive stats look good on paper...until you see the offenses that they go up against. Quality players that are not tested until they step OOC because the "SEC quality" offenses are...average at best.

I think athleticly, its true, especially on the dline.

Schematically they are simple, because of the offenses they see. That's why they struggle OOC

Unless a JUCO QB is in the mold of Cam Newton, I would certainly like USC's chances.

With a strong running game LSU could move the ball some and LSU's defense will no doubt be good even with the high-profile departures, but I'm confident that USC's potent offense can score far more points on LSU's strong D than LSU's likely limited offense can score on a sound USC D.

LSU's best option would be to run the ball, eat clock and shorten the game as the potentially weakest area of the USC D is on the line.

  • My thoughts are as follows:

College football needs someone to step up and challenge the best in the SEC. Oklahoma, Texas, Ohio St, Michigan, etc have proven not to be of equal talent/coaching. I think USC is that team. In spite of the heavy sacntions that were levied and still persist, USC is in a position now to challenge for the national title, likely against an LSU or Alabama (personally I think Alabama is the better team, has a better coach, and has more talent on both sides of the ball, but that's just my opnion)

I think USC would have a difficult time running the football and protecting the passer on deep drops. Lane knows this too and would prepare accordingly. We have ALOT of talent both at the WR and TE positions, and I think the Trojan TEs would play a huge role in that game if it were to happen. The bubble screen would also play a big part of our offense as it usually does to take pressure off of Matty Ballgame and the O-line.

LSU really is not a very good offensive team honestly. They have a young QB but otherwise enough experience. They do score alot of points, but: 1. I am not that impressed with their opponents in the SEC or otherwise outside of Alabama and South Carolina. The fact that Auburn nearly lost to Utah St at home (they should have lost that game and had to have a late rally including recoverng an onside kick in order to win) to me means they should not have been ranked all year, and in fact they are a pretty lousy team that would struggle in the PAC as well. Florida is down. Tennessee is terrible. Georgia is decent but not in the caliber of LSU, Alabama or South Carolina. LSU played well against a physically overmatched Oregon team. Oregon is very fast but relatively undersized. USC is not. We are big, fast, physical and play intimidating, especially later in the season. Fatigue, due to a diminished roster, plays a role on defense for use substantially more than offense in my opinion and that issue would likely rear its ugly head vs a physical team like LSU.

Both special teams are very strong.

In the end it would be a good game. As a biased USC alum and die hard, I think USC would prevail: 31-28.

I absolutely agree with you and I think this will most likely be their coaching strategy. It has worked for them against most teams and I would love to see Lane Kiffin open up the playbook considering a more mature offense. George Farmer will be the X-factor in this game. He needs to shine early in season to establish confidence. I love this matchup. Or Alabama.

That's why I put "SEC quality" in brackets, lol.

USC knows how to play defense...we've just had a few down years from what we're accustomed to fielding on the defensive side of the ball.

Wow, this is a great way to get my blood boiling first thing in the morning.

I (unfortunately) watched every minute of the NC Game and last I saw, LSU got shut out 21-0. Yes, Alabama's defense was all-world, and I don't think SC could match that effort entirely. But, I do believe that SC would be able to move the ball and score points on the LSU defense.

Everyone points out SC's WRs. But, we have some really athletic TEs and a solid power running game. I think Kiffin would spread out the offense to reduce the LSU pass rush. Once they got tired out from defending so much pass, he would shift to a power running game and have McNeal come down their throat. Oh and let's not forget that SC's OL returns 4 starters. I think they would do a good job of keeping Barkley clean.

The SC defense, while unknown in the middle, return 9 starters. Sure, they gave up a lot of points to Stanford (3OT game) and Oregon, but those teams feature a very balance offense (Stanford) and that kooky spread crap (Oregon). With the lack of a good passing game, SC could have 8-9 in the box and minimize the LSU running game.

Sorry, I know we're trying to be nice, but if this game happens in January, I see SC winning 31-13.

I think Lane would have the LSU linebackers running in circles by the end of the first quarter, wondering which side of the field to cover.
