Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.
We use words like honor, code, loyalty...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use 'em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!

Coming off the nearly 500 yard passing game against Zona, give me one good reason why Lane Kiffin would order the USC falls to be deflated or underinflated?
You are suddenly left with one of two scenarios:
1) USC has been doing it for four years and every refereeing crew had missed, or
2) Kiffin decided to have his senior QB experiment with an underinflated ball for the biggest game of the season to date.
We are not obligated to abandon our common sense and think nefarious intent because we don't have all the answers yet.

Or a 3rd option.
USC did it for the first time against Arizona and didn't get caught. They tried it again and this time the refs caught them.

So they didn't get caught deflating balls on the Arizona sideline in plain view of the opposing team's staff? Or do you think they just got sloppy and stupid enough to make no attempt to hide it against Oregon and only deflated half of the balls because...it would make things more interesting?
Come on, people are hearing hoofbeats and jumping to the big heard of zebras conspiracy explanation instead of seeing what is right in front of them.

I'm surprised you guys haven't fired this clown yet. He hasn't done anything to earn the job as Usc coach but have a football legend as a dad....who clearly is done(sad to see as a bucs fan) cause allowing 60 plus is insane. If Florida allowed that much to any team we would call for the coaches head and have it by the next day
Usc is too good for lane. Guy sucks as a coach and a person. Hire someone else with that talent and small little Oregon is your bitch again.

One really big thing doesn't make sense about the "innocent mistake" explanation: if this was an innocent mistake, why was the student fired ?
In generic terms, my first thought in a situation like this is that the student wouldn't have done it on their own. (What would the student's motivation have been to do it on their own ?)
Take USC out of the equation.
If this happened at, say, Auburn, would you guys accept the explanation that it was a student acting alone ?
Or would you assume that this was something Chizik was doing to gain an edge ?

That PR door swings both ways.
If USC does nothing to the violator for a violation that resulted in a 25k fine, then the NCAA perceives us as being flippant or indifferent towards infractions and violators.
Most USC fans could give a shet about the PR angle at this point, as the ONLY opinion that really matters is the NCAA's.
If our predicament has taught us anything it's that the NCAA wants programs to self monitor, regulate, and enforce bylaws when the situation calls for it.
The notion that 'honest mistakes' should go unpunished that cost ones employer $25k is a bit naive. Too bad the judge didn't adopt that position towards me when I told him I didn't intend to speed before getting ticketed.

Chip Kelly will leave for the NFL soon, and USC will always get recruits. Once it rids itself of Kiffin, USC will be back to being the powerhouse it usually is.
Loved this comment by Chip Kelly though "They can do whatever they want," he told Eugene-area reporters later Thursday. "It's no big deal to us."

Not sure where you are getting your information, but ESPN and Colin Cowherd(SC's biggest fan) are reporting rumors that Barkley in fact knew. And that the NCAA is in contact and questioning the ballboy.
This close to season's end and graduation, Barkley will be virtually unaffected beyond his image. Kiffin however is now seeing this 5th drop of water turn into a picther which has filled the bucket. When the bucket overflows, his dismissal is imminent. Other fans dont want to see this because he stinks as a coach and want him on the sideline to offset that embarassment of riche level of talent. But his snake oil salesmanship is tiresome for competitive athletics.

for Kiffin. Paraphrasing Ted Miller, do you think a ball boy would ever take it upon himself to even blink funny on a Saban coached team?
