LOL. Good thing ESPN never picks up bogus "sources are reporting" headlines. Nah that never happens. The point is still the same...it's put under rumors headlines with no author willing to stake his or her name to the "story."

It's not a rumor. They fired the kid for a reason (to cover their own butt). That being said, you guys can go on and on debating whether there is an advantage gained by deflating your footballs. That doesn't matter. What matters is that the NCAA has minimum psi rule for game balls and USC intentionally deflated balls to below the minimum. There was intent, and it was against the rules.

this doesn't really make sense.
The refs caught 3 under inflated balls before the game began, and 2 more at half? Doesn't sound like, initially at least, the refs thought it was intentional.
Barkley and receivers at USC don't need this. It probably hurts them unless Barkley has been practicing throwing under inflated balls.
I am guessing this was a mistake by a knucklehead student manager. Why USC was fined and reprimanded is probably because Haden finally had enough of the defensive holding calls on our receivers to say something and Larry Scott fired back with this.
Fight On!

I think QuackAddict over on Oregon.247 got it correct:
"If I were Pat Hayden, the USC AD, I would be looking to fire whomever deflated the balls of the USC Defense - this was the real cause of their loss."
LMFAO!

I don't see any inaccuracies in this report ... if so ... someone point them out?
Have you ever read or heard of a DIV 1 team being fined for tampering with game balls before? Ever.
Not saying Lane knew of this, but when you keep adding up the gamesmanship stuff Lane is doing it would not seem a far step for a team manager to think he could pull one himself. It is all about tone set by the coach. IMO

Welp, we found a way back on the front page of yahoo sports.
Seems stupid to me and seems like the kind of things Tennesse fans warned us of that we brushed off and labeled as desperate attempts to discredit to mask their pain.
No way the kid did that on his own, no way at all.

TW, Kiffin is talking about it right now. The story is accurate.
@insidetroy Regarding deflated football Kiffin said situation was brought to his attention Sunday.
@insidetroy Kiffin said he didn't know why it was done. It was done in plain sight on Oregon sideline. Compliance investigated.
@insidetroy Kiffin said no coaches or Matt Barkley had any knowledge of the situation.
@insidetroy Kiffin said it would be harder for Barkley to throw or kickers to kick balls that were inflated to different levels. #USC
@insidetroy Kiffin said league never told #USC coaches. At half refs tested balls and some were not inflated properly. They were fixed.
This whole thing is stupid IMO. If it was any other school or any other coach it would be a non-issue. As it stands, everyone wants to blame Kiffin even though there is no evidence he had anything to do with it.
Such is the world.
