USC Offers Local 3-Star OL

  • Barton S said...

Yes. Seen him in a camp in person, seen him in a game on film and seen him in highlights on film. Think he's a 3-star. That opinion could definitley change as I see more though.

    wow...smh

Not sure why you guys care about who's underrated, I thought only the coaches' rankings matter?

Exactly. I dont see these recruits nearly enough in person or on tape to be too invested in where they're ranked. I think they have seen these guys enough to form a better opinion than most folks. That's why I usually only care about who USC has offered and local recruits. If the coaches offered and we get them, that's all that matters IMO. Also, if a kid is in the top 300 list its basically a toss up anyway.

  • That's because Barton isn't rating kids on ability or what he sees when they play but on wether they weigh 185+.What he doesn't understand is corners shouldn't weigh that much if they want to remain corners. Safeties on the other hand should weigh that much.Imo

We had Seymour the #3 CB in the country and No. 46 overall. Higher than everybody else. Not high enough?

Tuerk may have been too low but we still had him as the No. 8 OT in the country.

We had Ronnie Stanley slightly higher than most at the No. 15 Ot in the country.

Our numbers in the Top247 are pretty comparable to the other big 3 states if I recall correctly.

We will have more updates to california as soon as we have some technical issues with our ranking tool sorted out. It's actually killing me because there are several guys that I want to bump to 4-stars that we just can't make the change with right now because of some technical issues.

Also, California is a much tougher state to evaluate early than Florida and texas (especially Florida). Because Florida is so heavily recruited, it's easy to find the studs, they'll have 20 offers before their junior season is done. In California, the offers are much slower to come so it takes longer to identify the elite players. Not an excuse, just a reality.

Seymour, Tuerk, Darreus Rogers etc... made huge jumps in the rankings after their respective All Star game performances, but this time last year, they were way lower than what their final rankings show. I remember you guys had Tuerk as the 39th best OT this time last year, lol. I think the same will happen with Justin Davis and Joe Mathis after they ball out in the Army game.

USC is a powerful place that Lane Kiffin is ruining.

  • The good thing about them being underrated: Brennan Carroll won't try to poach them.

  • Per a previous WEARESC article, we should probably dampen our hopes re this kid:
"Utah State was the first school to offer Falah but the lineman admitted picking up an offer from the Bruins was special.

“My dad went to UCLA so I grew up a Bruin fan,” Falah said. “I went to a lot of UCLA games the last few years and this offer definitely means a lot to me and my family. Right now, it’s still really early for me and I’m open to everyone. I like USC a lot and a few other schools too and I have no plans to make an early commitment.

Mr. Barton I watch these kids on a weekly basis.. JoJo is a DT and was playing MLB at the 7 on 7 in vegas.. That shows me something.. JoJO is a high 4 star... I am really starting to question some of the guys who evaluate talents on some of these sites. if JoJO, Tahaan, Nicco, John Lopez are 3 stars, well who is a 4 star in California because those are the top players in California with Vhris H and Sue.. Barton come to Nike this weekend and I bet you change your mind..

I'll be at Nike. Tahaan and John Lopez are already 4-stars.

Nope. We're ranking on as much evaluation, film, camp, 7on7 info as we can. Not sure when i said i wanted my corner prospects to be 185+. I've never thought that. Of our top 35 corners in the country from the 2012 class, two were listed at 185 or heavier.

I wanted a 5-9/165 pound corner named Tyrann Mathieu to be a top100 kid, ended up making him a four despite others at rivals saying he should be a 3-star.

I'm hitting California for the second time this month this weekend to see more. Will be back in mid april again.

I won't try to claim our rankings are perfect but we work hard on them and they're constantly changing.

  • USC has a pretty good history when Lane and Coach O were here before, picking up underrated players....especially o-linemen, Ryan Kalil was a 3*, and he's made the pro bowl three times in his short NFL career. That's just one example.
