  • Personally, I could care less about getting recognition from the media and the rest of the country. It's not about starting #1, #5, etc...it's about finishing #1, but before getting "hyped" up about that, it is staying focused and playing one game at a time. I actually wouldn't mind starting the season ranked #2, or #3...Let everyone think that we're not good...that we don't deserve to be ranked #1...Let everyone think that. I don't mind people "saying" were not any good and I don't mind people not giving us recognition.
    Some years back, it was said we were weak and we were from a weak conference and there was no way we should play for a NC...We got snubbed and the BCS decided they would go with LSU and OU. The very next year, everyone was saying the same thing about us. Fortunately, the BCS decided to put us in the NC game against OU, even though everyone was saying we didn't deserve it and that OU was going to beat us easily. Well, we all saw what happened on the field that night...we pretty much wiped out OU and it changed everyone's perception about us. Now, some years later there are still many doubting us...LET THEM. We don't need the media's approval, we obviously seen how the NCAA tried to stick it to us, and we don't need people across the country to approve of us...rather, let's just go take care of our business on the field and make every effort to play one game at a time at a high level staying focused and doing everything we can to beat down any team that steps in our way.

  • USC Potential loss = drops us down to the #10-12 rank
    Sec potential loss = drops them down to the #2-4 rank.

    Don't get too excited, hard to undefeated and it will be really tough to beat Oregon twice.

    I agree 100% .. it's a two edged sword... like this because they are giving SC some much deserved respect.. but I hate it because it paints a big bulls eye on SC's chest and it can make kids over confident... I hope they live up this montra of "prep not hype" so they can go into this season with a chip on their shoulder and go in wanting to beat the crap out of anyone and everyone they run up against.. they should rememebr they are not just playing for some BCS title.. they are playing against all those people who loved the fact that the NCAA screwed them over.. playing against those people who calls them cheaters and say they sederve to be screwed over!

    They should play for each other and their fans!!

    BD #9 is a longtime poster who just types very crazy ( sometimes unreadable) he's on the OT board alot in the offseason. I like BD though, he's his own guy, but his style certainly isn't for everyone. Loves SC football and all sports I know that much.

    Anyways it's cool to be #1, better at seasons end and it can be a bit of a burden for some teams, everyone knows the Trojans should be kickass and the guys should understand just PLAYING for USC ( anyyear) gives you a huge target on your back ..it's always been that way in my 39 years..good years or bad, it's the HIGHLIGHT of EVERY TEAM USC PLAYS EVERY YEAR TO KNOCK OFF THE TROJANS..and our opponents usually bring their best stuff, don't get caught SLIPPIN ..TROJANS..it's happened to some great teams before when they got a little overconfident, play hard kick that ass every play, have a blast and get excited but don't get too cocky... respect that guy across the line..go all out to kick his ass/do one's job and everything usually works out just fine....best team wins ....so to be #1 a team has to play like #1......make it happen !!...Fight On !!!

    Exactly. I feel like the team plays better when they're not ranked #1. But, I also feel like Lane will be able to keep the kids level headed and focused so they don't let the ranking go to their heads!
