Talk of Chip going to the NFL heating up

  • westcoastfball said...

Peyton Manning talks all the time about how running the hurry-up offense in practice makes them so much better, because they are able to get in so many more plays than the average team in practice.

There are so many Peyton Mannings, Tom Bradys, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and the rapist in the NFL...three of those guys didn't come out of spread/uptempo offenses.

I'd be cool with Chip at Oregon. He is good for college FB. But the reality is that nfl wants him, and he is interested. No telling if he will go for sure, but he is interested. Its in his competitive nature. Also, that is what happens when you are successful. Oregon will have to learn about losing good coaches and still competing with the new guy. Hot coaches will always be pursued.

The CD element from USC that want Chip to the pros is small. Most want him to stay so we can beat him. We like challenges.
    As to your pronouncement that he is staying;
#1 - you don't know anything of the sort
#2 - if you were accustomed to being a winning program you would know that you will lose good coaches to the pros. We have been doing it for decades.

And they lost everyone one of those 4 Super Bowls because the opposing team slowed down the game and kept the ball away from them.

Actually, they lost one because Scott Norwood missed a pretty easy Field Goal

    He is gone Homey
He was gone last year until Nike U's owner threw a fit
That bought Uncle Phil one more year and thats it
Last year Chipper had ONE offer
This year he will have two or three
    That = Bidding War
No one is going to turn that down, especially one who has never coached in the NFL before
Saban could have it if he wanted it, but he doesnt want it
    It's Chip's turn

  • Great college coaches cannot resist the challenge of the NFL. Spurrier, Butch Davis, Pete Carroll, Jim Harbaugh, are just a few of the recent examples.

In Pete's case he was an NFL coach as much or more than a college coach, so it's not surprising that he ultimately ended up back in the NFL.

Not many are very successful either.. ie: Butch Davis, Spurrier, Nick Saban, Petrino, Lou Holtz..

This. We were told at the beginning of the 2007 season at a Coach's Tour dinner, to enjoy Pete while we had him, because he would not be with us forever..Sark was being groomed for the HC position.

USC was the perfect stage for Pete to show what he could accomplish with full control of a football program. He waited for the one NFL offer that gave him the same thing he had at USC, freedom to do things his way, and he got to stay on the west coast he loves.

    LOL...

Saban did want it, and the Miami Dolphins sent him back to Kindergarten like a 1st grade teacher who had lost her patience.

The Wahsington Redskins send their regards to all the way to South Carolina, too.

Chipper might make the jump at some point, but some coaches/schemes, are better-suited for the college game.

Coaches like PC and Harbaugh? They left thick slices of skin in the NFL long before enjoying success at the college level.

    Wrong and irrelevant

It was actually him that left Miami and with the success he has had since, all he would have to do is put out feelers and he would be the number one name out there

    But he doesnt want it

He didnt fail in the NFL, he failed in Miami

Just like Tony Sparano, Bill Parcells, Dave Wannstadt, Jimmy Johnson and Don Shula ( the final 15 years).

    Notice a trend?

Good point. What's the problem with Miami? Brady/bellichek the last 10 yrs? Parcells' giants?

But the dolphins were always pretty good with Marino during the last 15 yrs with Shula weren't they?

That is the problem, in a quarterback league, they haven't had a very good QB since Marino left.

Yes...Shula also won a Super Bowl with a back up QB. Some people argue against all reason.

    At least it's entertaining.

are you referring to 1972 when Griese went down in week 5 but returned in the playoffs to lead the team to a super bowl victory?
