  • Big changes for Woods and Wailker. They are going to be beasts this year! Hobbi is looking good and the TE's are bigger. Can't wait to see this group just kick some butt next fall!

Great stuff man. That is something USC has sucked at which is updating weights. Probably the only school where our kids are bigger at the NFL combine than their college listed weights.

I do think Tuan is down closer to 300 than 315.
Great weight gain by hobbi. That puts him on the ready to play list, especially if he can put on another 10 pounds before year starts.
I think an even greater change in the team's overall size and strength will occur between spring game and start of fall camp.
Grimble is a monster and 260 seems right for him. He is like having an extra otackle in the game on the edge with his blocking.
Uko said he was as low as 265 last year and I hope he can get to 295 before Fall camp.

Winning the academic award in the SEC is sort of like winning the special olympics. Even if you win, you are still a retard.

  • Thanks FK, I completely agree on the weight updates, it sucked keeping up with the size increases since we always saw player's freshman weight.

I agree on Uko, reading about his weight fluctuation last season was weird, I'd love to see him as close to a solid 300 as possible so he can give the team the option of being the starting DT or NT.

I hope you're right regarding Tuan, his was the only weight i was disappointed in since I've read so much about his lack of conditioning last year. Losing 10 lbs is not impressive, hopefully its much more, but then again I thought i recall reading that he actually weighted over 330 when he came in. I know him and Martin didnt look good, but Martin fixed that and became a bigtime player, I'm hoping Tuan does the same thing since he's at a serious position-of-need.

I forgot to mention how impressed I am with Heyward's weight gain, again a position-of-need, but if we can have guys like him and Tavai out of the 270 range, things will look much beter.

Woods has to own the nose, Uko is not the guy to clog up the middle. He doesn't have that dump truck frame and brute strength of Ellis, Casey, or Woods, but he's crazy athletic. He played end almost exclusively at Don Lugo.

Thats part of the problem, Woods didnt own anything last season, Uko and Tavai were the 2 underclassmen that got playing time, and Heyward was right behind Tavai. Kiff is going to play the best 2, so if Woods isnt one of them, then one of the others will start at nose, Kiffen has already stated that he'll try different combos at NT/DT, so unless Woods tears it up this spring, he will not be a starter, and even if he is, someone else is going to get major minutes at NT. I know Woods is really the only natural NT on the roster, but the coaches dont seem to care, the 2 best will start.

Yes, I know. From whats been posted online, Antuan had conditioning issues the entire season and has been told he needs to lose weight, and Heyward almost had his redshirt burned a couple of times, but I'm not sure what that means, other than he was possibly the next Dlineman in line.

...it means a no-name 270lbs. Polynesian high school FB came to play. I don't think Woods or Heyward were anywhere near ready last year. Said it a million times, defensive tackle play is going to determine the Trojan fate this year.

  • Would be interesting to see the weights after spring ball is over.

    runningfigueroa

  • Actually, before fall ball. They'll have over 3 months after spring to put on more mass and/or lose more weight. I'll say this, based on initial results, the future is very bright.

I think Kiffin said a few times that he almost played Heyward but thought better of it. So he didn't come in ready but progressed early during the season before his injury. Woods on the otherhand was severely out of shape despite being at USC throughout the summer. I'm surprised he weighed 315 (which he confirmed) because he had gotten down to 305 lbs (another weight he had confirmed).

I think Robert Woods needs/will lose about 10lbs since he had not beeb running this offseason.
I also believe CT, grimble, and Kennard (just 5 lbs) need to lose weight. JMO

I also dont mind A.Woods at 315 as long as his wind is up. If he had replaced fat with muscle then I think he'll be serious player for USC by mid year

I'm not sure if the weight was added because of that or to give him some added bulk after the number of touches he had last year. We leaned on him heavily and it took a bit of a toll as the year wound down. It's unlikely he'll bear exactly that same burden with Marqise's emergence, but it still is very plausible he gained weight for that very reason.

  • TEs weighing 250 and 260 pounds are beasts. Going to be difficult for anyone to cover them effectively.

USC Football Spring Practice Starts Tuesday - USC's Official Athletic Site

As the 2012 USC football team begins spring practice on Tuesday (March 6) for 15 sessions, there seems to be one overriding theme: Unfinished business.

  • Right off the bat on the prospectus, Kessler is listed at 6-1 when rumor was he had grown to 6'3" 1/2, and Robey is still listed at 165. Not sure how updated it is.

  • I think McNeal at 190 is going to be really tough to bring down because he runs so hard. If he maintains his speed, he is going to have a beast of a year!!

Kessler is definitely not 6-1 any more than Barkley is. Both are clearly taller to those who know them.
