  • He (DAT) did show up last year. It wasn’t enough.

He’s right about not playing against freshmen DB’s.

    BUT wait:

Wasn’t Marquise Lee a FRESHMAN? That’s right. He’s a sophomore this year, which means his sophomore better is better than those freshmen DB’s sophomore best. That’s just logical reasoning.

Also, has he heard of George Farmer? A healthy Robert Woods? Do they have enough DB’s to keep up with three burners at WR?

Like him, I’m not saying anything but...

    westcoastrules

  • I wouldn't trade one Marqise Lee for 10 DAT's.

  • Maybe DAT plans on going both ways. Just a thought, who knows what other gimmicks O is installing. But I can see DAT lining up against Lee thinking pick 6, but end up being picked on for 6

  • He sure says alot for someone "not saying anything".
Twitter does cut down the "you know" 's mercifully.

I wonder if they realize that with our own cb's, one was in his first year at USC, the other in his second. I don't think that' s waayyyy more experience that you can make excuses about. Actually, they started Troy Hill and Terrance Mitchell, both Redshirt Freshmen so their db starters actually had MORE experience on their team than our corners did.
Let's not mention our own starting OG, WR, SLB, WLB, MLB were all FRESHMEN. Possibly fr DT Tavai as well, I can't recall offhand. I just hope Oregon fans aren't making this same excuse because it just doesn't fly.

''IM NOT SAYING ANYTHING BUT WHEN THAT DAY COME UP O VS SC BEST BELIEVE IM GOING TO SHOW UP AND SHOW OUT #REAL TALK THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY''

    He Re-tweeted this.

''@KINGMOMBA6 Matt Barkley dont get to throw against 2 freshman db's this year. @imoneymaknmitch will pick 6 that weak #GoDucks Retweeted by De'ANTHONY THOMAS

Looks like the DATE Nov.3 is a trending topic already!

Wait...DeAnthony Thomas actually got a sentence out without the word "Um" every other word? Let me fix this so DeAnthony can understand what he wrote himself.

You know, from the link provided you could tell that this decision was very hard on DeAnthony...almost seems as though the reports of him being forced out of California were true. I really feel bad for this young man...I don't believe him to be the bad seed that many believe him to be! He's a competitor...and a dang good one at that! That lil' dude has mad heart, and he plays the game like a giant despite his slight stature. Wish things did not transpire the way they did....whatever it may have been that led him to change his mind; however, I wish him all the best in fulfilling his dreams--just not against my beloved Trojans!

  • The ironic part of that statement is that his next level prospects would have been much brighter if he went to USC and played the same position as those aforementioned freshman DBs instead of training to become a glorified return specialist in the NFL.

    His loss.

  • Why are a bunch of adults getting worked up about what some punk kids tweets.
If we are better than WhOregon on the field, we will show it on November 3rd by kicking their collective asses. No point in yapping about it and pounding our chests until then, just to spite DAT.
Be classier than the Oregon players and fans, dont float in the murky water with them.

  • I agree with you Felix, his future does indeed look brighter as a DB, especially at SC. I think that in the right offensive scheme DeAnthony may provide an impact the likes of a Warrick Dunn...which isn't all that bad if accomplished!

Does he know his two freshmen DB's were covering a true frosh and true soph?

Exactly, he should tell his now Sophomore DB's that one WR for the Trojans is no longer a Freshman and the other kid will be 100%. lol

    TahoeTrojan

  • Seems like he is trying to psych himself up for this game because he knows that the Ducks are under-dogs and will most likely lose (in front of his home-town homies).
Let him talk all he wants. Our Defense will talk on the field with their shoulder pads. We ain't Wisconsin!

I think this is a very good post. Though, I don't think he was forced out. I think he was a nervous 17 year old speaking to an audience he was aware would be upset with his decision and knowing how long he had so many people convinced he was a trojan. I understand why people were upset with the decision, but his friends have nothing but love for the kid. Sure they want to beat his ass on the field now (as they should), but they are all fine with his decision and wish him the best. The only people wishing ill on him or cursing him are fans who don't (really) know him at all and have formed opinions about him from media, random quotes, etc. He is an 18 year old kid who made a decision a year ago...might be time to follow the lead of those who know him best and move forward.

Also, I do wish he wouldn't speak about the game and inflame the Trojan players and fanbase...The ducks will have enough to deal with/worry about Nov. 3rd without added flames to the fire. I have no doubt he can back it up, but until the duck DBs are able to do anything against Lee and Woods I'd rather not poke the bear.

Totally agree with you assessment of his future Felix, but you are missing a very important point. He didn't want to play DB. Kind of like Jake Plummer or Barry Sanders...both those guys had the opportunity for large contracts and continued careers, but they didn't want it. They wanted something different. They are happier people for the decisions they made. I don't know if DaT is happy, but going to USC just because he would have had better pro prospects is a decision you would have made...probably me too, but he wanted to play offense. I applaud him for making a very tough decision to pursue what he thought would make him happier as opposed to what he felt would make him more money.

And no one on last year's USC team that was recruited for a specific position switched to another?

You go where the team needs you and the team will not put you in a position that you can't handle. Personally, I really don't care that he didn't come to USC, especially if it wasnt in his heart to do so, but don't make excuses for the way he punked the USC coaches and players. Step and be a man. Just say that I have thought long and hard and I want to go to Duck Shit U and dont string along a bunch of people up until the last moment.

No shame in that at all but here's the thing - Warrick Dunn (and Quizz Rogers, who's a bit like a modern incarnation of Dunn) were both 190 pounds and able to run between the tackles.

De'Anthony is something in the neighborhood of 170, tops, and makes his living busting runs wide and turning the corner. Reggie Bush tried that and it didn't work, but the difference is he was able to reinvent himself as a one cut and go type of runner because he's 200 pounds; De'Anthony would get eaten alive if he tried that. He may have shot as a slot receiver because he is so explosive but that will require a lot of refinement with his routes, and Oregon's primarily going to use him in the backfield from now on.

He's so small that even corner would be a struggle long term because NFL receivers would absolutely maul him in press coverage, but again he's explosive enough that he'd have no trouble turning and running with anyone, so it would be his best bet. I suppose that switch could still happen someday, too, but given how specialized everything is it would be unlikely; I remember RoJo, for example, saying WR would be his college position and CB his NFL position when he came here but it didn't play out that way.

So yeah, next level he's probably a return specialist/special packages type guy, and the right coach can absolutely exploit that to some effect. But I remember reading an NFL scout who said it best - how many 170 pounders do you see in the NFL? If he can't make it through a full season healthy at Crenshaw, tough to imagine it happening at the professional level.
