  • Does it not bother anyone that we are essentially pulling scholarships from "non-essential" players?

PH would never allow that, it's not the family way

I haven't seen one pulled yet.

But as mentioned.........this is where the NCAA forced us. If you haven't been screaming long and loud about that......why are you posting about things that haven't happened?

No scholarships are getting pulled. Little known fact, but they are only for a year and can be renewed at the end of the year. What the NCAA did no longer gives USC the luxury of guaranteeing 4 or 5 year scholarships. Also many of the guys that are leaving (or could be leaving) are JC players who were more than likely informed by CLK and staff that they would be given a year to prove themselves and then be reevaluated at the end of said year OR are guys who have been here for 4 years and already have their degree (and can transfer to another school, willing to give them a scholarship, and play immediately). I don't have any reservations about telling a 4 year guy to play his final year elsewhere. Notre Dame does this regularly (without sanctions) and no one says a thing, so no one should have a problem with USC doing the same out of necessity.

  • There will be enough transfers and grade issues.

Winning the academic award in the SEC is sort of like winning the special olympics. Even if you win, you are still a retard.

stop being so dang gullible and taking what you hear on the interweb for fact. Players just have a short leash now.

  • Does anybody NOT think that Baxter's schollie was essentially "pulled"? I completely understand the position we have been put in by the NCAA but my worry is with potential recruits who might look at this with a raised brow.

plus, my guess is that any of the 5-6 guys who are asked to give up their football scholarships will more than likely still be able to finish their degree, albeit without football. My guess is that the guys will be far down on the depth chart.

This. Enough guys will leave on their own to get more playing time.

Where the fuck did this come from? Never heard of it, but, if you want to start pulling schollies, why was Tyler allowed to continue playing?

Fuck those bitches who don't think they're good enough to keep their ride. We only have room for ballers, son.

Isn't it time to get over the Baxter situation? He's long gone and he ain't coming back.

Looking forward to the news about the recruiting class as the coaches reel in some good ones.

We are going to fault Baxter for asking for more playing time? That sounds to me like he WANTS to and THINKS he can ball. That he was given NO playing time and forced to consider other options is not in my opinion something that you can fault him for.

    WANTING to play is understandable.

Pouting about not getting what you want is cancerous if left unchecked.

A number of times during games when his teammates were doing well, I noticed Baxter being totally disengaged from the moment.

  • Baxter's problems are 100% Baxters fault. Asking for playing time had NOTHING to do with his departure. He screwed himself. Details would be inappropriate but this had nothing to do with him wanting to play!!

You're seriously picking Dillon Baxter (the same guy that lied about ncaa infractions, never had his shit together, and pouted about a lack of playing time) to make us feel bad for taking a player off scholarship? You're fighting a losing battle, bro.

And recruits? If a kid doesn't wanna come here, because they know if they keep screwing up that they're off the team (a la Baxter) then I don't want him here. Suspensions and getting kicked off a team aren't situations unique to sanctioned football programs. I guarantee that Kiffin would have done the same thing even if there weren't any scholarship restrictions. Baxter never played with passion or heart, messed up multiple times, and made a fool of himself more than once all before his sophomore season.

OK, so now guys have to worry about not "looking disengaged" to avoid having a schollie "pulled"?

Listen, obviously I am playing the devil's advocate here, like I said, worried about how this looks to potential recruits.

Ok, so I will ask again, why was Tyler allowed to stay on the team? He committed several serious infractions. Not playing with heart, or what you or others perceive that to be is not a reason to justify him (baxter) being BUMPED out and furthermore, if that is the ultimate intention, why not "talk" to him before the start of the season so that he does not have to lose a complete year go eligibility elsewhere?

Disengaged was a sanitized way of saying he looked bummed out that others were doing well. To me, that's symptomatic of a self-centered player.

Check out his response at the end of the Utah game on our final TD for an example.

Saying that he had his scholarship pulled is jumping the gun. We don't know that to be true. But yeah, if a player is just all about him, that attitude can be cancerous, and that type of player needs to be reminded that his scholarship is a year-to-year offer.

If the recruit Comes in worried about his scholarship being pulled, he's probably lacking the confidence In his own abilities required to be a good fit at USC anyway.

I'm not advocating that scholarships get pulled at the drop of a hat, but Dillon had a year and a half to show who he was. I hope for his sake this was a wake-up call, and that he has an attitude adjustment before his next stop.
