RB Silas Redd Will Transfer To USC

  • uscemper said...

The vast majority of the PSU fans are ripping him apart on the TOS S.

That is understandable, but they shouldn't mention the words honor and integrity when addressing this particular situation.

It is precisely because of those two words that Silas is a Trojan today.

I wasn't posting two years ago, but what was the backlash from USC fans/alum when we had our exodus of players? Just curious.....

This a million times over. The comments over there are disgusting, I understand the passion for football but they just don't get it.

Haven't seen so much crying on a football board in a long time. I don't remember seeing many fans banding together and ripping ex-SC players when they left during our sanctions. Maybe I just have a bad memory.

They are definitely spouting some stupid shit over there though. I'm seriously beginning to develop a strong dislike for that fan base.

They have the nerve to make statements like "It's ironic that he is going to a football program that actually broke the rules". WTF have they been watching for the last 2 weeks? They do realize the whole facade that their coaching staff and admin group created helped their football team for years, right? Apparently not.

Most of their good posters are steering clear of the thread all together. All of their cry-baby bitches are coming out of the wood-work though.

We're just more laid-back, period. I think we just truly believe that there is no coach or player that is greater than the university itself...and our Trojan arrogance gives us the confidence to know that we will never be down for long. It has served us well over the years.

  • i just got banned from the psu board lol

someone was questioning why silas would use academics as an "excuse" saying that he only was after winning the nat'l title.

are you kidding me? PSU academics is the equivalent of a local community college in California. A degree from USC is worth 1,000 times more than a degree from Penn St.

No,no...Penn State is a very good school. Look up how many top 10, highly ranked schools they have...

Those are graduate schools. Silas can reapply to PSU's graduate school later if he wants to go to PSU's highly ranked school of vocational training.

Seriously. PSU's academics are a joke in comparison. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how the myth of quality academics at PSU continues being perpetuated. It's not just Penn State types that believe it.

I think they feel that if academics was important to him then he would have never gone to PSU in the first place. lol

JCakus, we really didn't experience an "exodus", per se. There were several good players who left, the best in my opinion being Malik Jackson. But nobody went nuts like today's PSU S board. I mean, they are nearly riotous.

As usctrojans1 correctly stated, no coach or player is greater than the University. We know we will be good.

Sdotk, their education is pretty good. But what they are missing is that Silas' letter indicated the plausible/printable concerns for which he made a difficult decision. He could never have mentioned the real reasons because they could only have been more inflammatory and offensive to the fan base.

I know there are fans here that commiserate with PSU because we have the NCAA as a commonality, but I don't. What happened over there was totally vile, dishonorable, rotten and despicable. I would never let my sons play for a program like that.

  • Hm. I'm going to alter my previous statement a bit. According to US News PSU is tied with Texas at #45 in terms of undergrad ranking. That's way better than I would have guessed...

As far as grad school goes, they aren't bad at all. Certainly not a top tier school for most (any?) programs, but pretty solid.

They appear to be using ASU's model, where a huge undergrad--tuition paying--population generates huge revenues that are then redirected into graduate studies and research. The obvious downside to this model is that staying selective is virtually impossible, although PSU has done a better job than ASU has in that department. Actually, Pasadena City College has done a better job, too. tongue

    per college board:

54% of applicants are admitted at PSU versus 23% for USC.

45% of incoming freshmen are in the top 10 percentile in their respective high schools for PSU versus 88% for USC.

for comparison UCSD: 38% of applicants accepted, 100% in the top 10 percentile

    Well said emper.

The PSU Cultists have shown themselves to be a vile group. There are some classy PSU fans that have shown up on our board that are not part of the cult, but the "true believers" on Blue and White Illustrated with their JoPa avatars are disgusting.

I'll be happy to no longer go to their boards now that Redd is at SC. A level of delusion exists amongst the PSU Cult that is so high (and regarding such horrific acts) that I now rank their fanbase at the very bottom of the list. Even below the quackers and Vol fans.

The True Believers are so mad at the way the program has been punished and keep making excuses for JoPa.

The fact that they are even playing games at all this year, and that there will be 100k people in the stands cheering for them is a slap in the face to every one of Sandusky's victims.

I hope Redd is part of a torrent of guys leaving PSU, as I'd like to see the PSU football program fade into oblivion. Maybe then the people who are still defending JoPa and his cronies will face the truth, and reflect back on what brought about the downfall of their program.

Am I to infer from this that ASU has good graduate programs? Because that does not sound even remotely plausible.

  • Surprised that PSU fans would rip him apart.

They should rip apart Lane Kiffin instead, for being the slick recruiter he is. Remember him at Tennessee? He flipped 2 Florida commits on NSD, and even accused Urban Meyer of "cheating" on 1 of those flips. And Urban Meyer was supposed to be the best recruiter in the SEC.

They should rip apart their own coaches also, for not rolling out the red carpet to keep him home. Their own coaches are supposed to re-recruit players looking elsewhere.

Two in a row at the coliseum for ND, put you in your proper place, below our boot.
