He has contributed an enormous amount to our program and has been a man of exemplary character, true... then he took the AD job, took a big shit on our program, and began taking the NCAA's side against us at every turn.

I'm sorry to say, but at this point Mr. Haden is what he is.

You have no clue what you are talking about
The next three years will prove how wrong you are

    Office Space Gangsta

I realized nobody made a video of this yet. Crazy. To all those who hate their jobs, Hakuna Matata...Office Space style. The Movie: Office Space The Song: Damn it Feels Good to be a Gangsta I deserve absolutely zero credit for anything in this video, I merely put it together.

Suppose it's used in reference to a different way of handling thangs...good, bad or indifferent--albeit very effective! Dare I say, deference!?! bow

    BTW, I'm not 50.

  • I like Haden. And here's a few reasons why:

    - Tennis National Championships, 2011, at stanford. 10 piece band is there. Playing (I think georgia?) in the semi-final match. One of the band members was... less than sober. We're playing at the break between doubles and singles. The ref comes out, tells us that the other team can't hear well and that we have to stop playing. As he's walking away, the less than sober one says "Yeah, well they suck." (He's usually a lot more creative than that; but he was quite incapacitated...) The ref spins around and says "WHAT did you say?" And starts complaining about it etc... Pat walks over and asks if there's a problem. The ref asks, "Are you the band director?" Pat says, "I'm the athletic director; leave them alone." Then takes the ref off to the side for a few minutes, comes back smirking, and that was the end of it.
    - The general feeling of the coaches and other people I've talked to at Heritage is that the character of the athletic department is so much better with him in charge. More organized. More vibrant. Etc...
    - I had more but I'm tired of typing.

I think it really comes down to this. He's an arrogant Trojan, but a smart one. He gives off the persona he does to make us look good. And then we win our battles on the field.

I think the way we're coming out of the sanctions was about as good as we could have hoped for. Dragging them out in court would have been a big deadweight on the school and the team.

Pat Haden took the high road, not the one most fans wanted, but the one that was necessary to make this mess go away quickly. I know numerous hard asses out there felt we needed to fight this battle, but this was a no win scenario. Pat knew it and led the program in the right direction and it's going to pay off big time THIS SEASON. I challenge you to provide one shred of evidence that he "began taking the NCAA's side against us at every turn." You can't, because this is a figment of your deluded imagination of how we should have been suing everyone at the NCAA.

I'm sorry to say, but at this point you are what you are and I'll affectionately think of you each time we score and I see Traveler's backside galloping down the sideline.

I suspect the vast majority of the "hard asses" are not alumni. I think an SC degree gives one a broader perspective in terms of what a a protracted, no-win fight would do to the cachet of the university. The high road was the right road.

    I don't necessarily agree
Some of the most hardcore militant, sue the NCAA, kill Paul Dee scorched earth people I know are USC Alumni, some with multiple degrees

I have no reason to doubt you, Blem. But, I have yet to run into one of those. I'm an old fart, a second generation Trojan, and my alumni peer group is pretty much okay with Haden. Maybe I'm out of touch with the younger, militant generation.

  • I disagreed with Director Haden's constant refrain of "We're going to win the right way." Which he said waaay too many times for waaay too long.

I disagreed with Director Haden's premature statements that we would not consider a legal challenge if the appeal resulted in an unfair decision.

I disagreed with Director Haden's complicity in allowing the Pac 12 to deny USC the Pac 12 South Division championship last season.

However, he has established a positive environment at USC and (except with respect to what resulted from the prior NCAA massacre) has been totally supportive of Lane and the student athletes.

He has done more for USC than I ever will. He has done more for USC than I will ever know. He is a better Trojan than I can ever hope to be. Hopefully, he is a USC mole working to destroy the NCAA (or at least reform it) from the inside, while insulating USC from further bias from those fair minded people.

He ain't perfect. But he's one of us, and he's one of the best of us. I hope Blem's right and he's totally gansta.
