OT: Tips on going up for the UW game?

  • Just booked a flight and a hotel for October! I'm really excited to visit because UW is a prospective grad school for me and I love me some Trojan football!

I'm staying in downtown Seattle about a half mile from the Space Needle. Any recommendations on cheap places to eat and stuff to do? Mind you I'm on a college budget. The most Seattle thing I have planned right now is dinner at the Space Needle restaurant. Also, how do you expect tailgating to be at Century Link field? Just like any ole NFL game?

    Thanks!

  • Thanks a lot for the reply! There's kind of 3 parts to this trip. 1. Romantic getaway with my gf. 2. Visit UW 3. Football. Just trying to make sure I don't go overboard on costs but I still want to embrace what the city has to offer. Thank you for the suggestions and I will definitely look them up. Don't be surprised if I drop a PM or two in your inbox!

I always stay in Bellevue and the cuisine is outstanding. Past the point of going out for drinks because I am working when I travel with the team, but it,s a perfect place to stay and it's easy access to Seattle where the game will be played this year.

Blows me away how much growth there has been in Bellevue the past five-six years. It's kinda like Century City in a way.

  • I lived in Bellevue for a few years, and highly reccomend it for a place to stay. Great selection of hotels, bars, and restaurants.

What do you like to do? Lots of great places to hike, and many microbreweries to tour.

The one "must see" is pike place market.

  • Thanks for the replies! It would be great to tailgate with some of you guys! As of now, we don't have any tailgate plans!

  • I've lived in Bellevue for about 25years. Great place, nice smallish city with plenty of free parking for restaurants and shopping. Ditto the "don't eat at the space needle" comment, but a drink with that view would be ok. On the Seattle Waterfront is a HUGE new ferris wheel that is very cool. There are so many restaurants in Seattle/Bellevue, it would be difficult to narrow it down, but the Seattle Times online frequently reviews places and posts recommendations.

  • Stadium is easy walk to International Section (mainly Asian restaurants). Of course I always hit a favorite greasy spoon: Mikes Chili Parlor in Ballard. just N of downtown and the Space Needle, across the bridge from Queen Ann neighborhood.. Yeah I recommend drinks at the Space Needle and skip dinner there, too many outstanding seafood places nearby.

Since the game is not at Husky Stadium, Bellevue may not be as practical this year. The east part of Bellevue is interesting for its large Russian community, with even the street signs in Cyrillic

  • Always go up to the UW game and this is my rounds that I always make even when not up there for a game.
Some great places that I go to are
-Paseo in Fremont (sandwiches) out of this world pork sandwich in a sleepy little town
-Salumi's by Mario B. from the food channel
    -Taylor shellfish farms
-Have to get my local food in at Kauai Family restaurant, ono grinds!
-Cruise around a large japanese market Uwajimaya some awesome foods there also in a food court type setting. Good for the pocket book. Cruise the seafood section and you ma see the guys cutting up large tunas.

To me great places without all the large pocket book prices, try it and I think you will like it. Maybe see you there as I will be staying in Bellevue as well with many others on this site.

  • I need to subscribe to this thread, I'll be going to that game with my father and while I've been to Seattle a handful of times it's always great to hear of new things.
