I'm not posting this on the OT board, because I hardly ever post there. August 13th is my 30th birthday. I found out today that it will also be my first day as an employee of the federal government. I got a job with the IT department within the Department of Veterans Affairs.
I've been working for this since I got out of the Army in '06 and it's finally come to fruition! I spend more time here on this board, than I do speaking to people here on the east coast and I wanted to share it here first!
I love this board and everything that comes with it! Just wanted to celebrate with the people that I spend the most time with!!

I felt like I should have gone in as at least GS-11, based off of skill-set and experience in the field, but I'm going in as GS-9.( unfortunate pay cut!!) It is what it is though....I have 6 years in service going in, so it's good that it'll count toward my GS service.
Now I have my foot in the door and I can jump around within the system. I've gone from noting to get here, so it's extremely fulfilling!
Even with the veteran's preference, it took me almost 3 years of applying
I should have even more time to monitor the board now!!

Thanks everybody!!
I think the best part is going to be the fact that I'll be getting 32.5 days worth of paid time off, compared to the 15 days per year that I was getting as a contractor.
These extra days will allow me to make it out there for more games than I ever would have been able to make it to before!
