That was different since the parents wanted USC and he wanted UCLA. He committed to USC on the recruiting show but sent his letter of intent to UCLA after telling his parents.

Hopefully USC has room for Khalil Rodgers.

I thought it was the other way around. He committed to USC and his parents looked pissed. Then when it came time he sent the letter to fucla. I very well could be wrong but I thought his patents were big fucla supporters and talked him into it. Again, I very well could be wrong.

  • Scott, what is your best guess on which school Falah will commit to? Thanks,

Hopefully this doesn't turn into a Torian White situation.

More like a McCarthy situation than a Torian White one.

This is how I remember it. He wanted USC. His parents wanted UCLA. You can watch the video and see the shock on his family's face when he announced for USC. His brother almost cries.

^this. It was exactly like the time Josh Shirley (pre purse snatching) committing to UCLA over USC (what his parents wanted). I remember laughing saying "I don't think they expected that".

Yeah see that's how I remember it. His parents were pushing fucla the whole time and were shocked on national tv, then talked him out of it. But I guess I'm wrong

  • The reason why Torians parents were shocked is because they knew he wanted to go to UCLA. Torian decided at the studio to announce for USC because he knew thats what his parents wanted. They could see he was depressed afterwards and let him go where he felt more comfortable.

    ADM1976

  • Interesting... I guess I was wrong. What I don't get is why they looked not only shocked but genuinely mad. If he had committed to the school they wanted it would seem there would be a little more excitement to go along with the shock.

I might be, but I really don't think I am this time.

You'r right. People are believing what the parents said after as a way to save face, but the video doesn't lie.

The kid can't happily attend UCLA if he publicly says he wanted USC and his parents forced him to UCLA. The only thing to say to the public was kid wanted UCLA.

Per the source, Nico committed to SC last week, but he's trying to get the family blessing.Dad is a bRuin. The commitments are coming in so fast that my source has no choice but to start getting into it.Damn, LFK!

    Great to hear that Mike.

Certainly seems like if he wanted UCLA he could have already committed.

If Nico does want SC, then his dad should put his personal feelings aside and do what's best for his son.
If his dad is any kind of parent, he will look at the situation objectively and see that there is no comparison between SC and the lil' bears at this point.

Similar academics, but SC is light years ahead in everything football-related: playing for Rose Bowls and NCs, a football tradition second to none, a history of putting OTs into the NFL, plus bringing in an insane class that Nico seems to be connected with and interested in being a part of.

With SC, Nico would be enjoying CFB at its highest level. At UCLA, he'd be at a second-rate program. It's not even close.

  • Ahhh makes sense. I had never heard what the parents said so I was a little confused as to why people thought he wanted fucla. All I had seen was the commitment and the parents reaction. That wasn't just shock, there was anger in their faces.

    Yep

    ADM1976

  • I stand corrected, nice find Action. I still don't get why the family looked so angry and shocked when he picked SC, especially if they had already discussed it and new he was going to.

  • This all makes sense. If nico did commit plus the two OT for the 14 class maybe this is why sc picked it back up with Rodgers? And this is why he is now coming to RSC. I think OT is weak this year and as long as we land nico, the coaches feel a little better and offer Rodgers.

Just trying to put the pieces together.

They didn't though; he says in the article he committed to SC because his parents wanted that and they didn't see it coming.

Torian's parents actually did things the right way and let him go to the place he wanted to, which is the way it should be.

Exactly, the parents did the right thing.

This is a better analogy - though I have no idea how much it holds true.

  • You are very correct Felix. According to the article they did a wonderful job as parents and I'm glad he got to go where he wanted. I watched that commitment though and they looked mad. Myself and TrojanMind can't be the only ones who watched and saw that they were upset.

To my eyes, McCarthy never seemed like he was really wanting SC other than the nano-second where SC was reportedly leading. He seemed like he was all over the place- really the exact opposite of Falah, who seems to be taking a very measured, steady approach to this.

Ah, so you think McCarthy's dad had nothing to do with choosing UCLA, or Carlisle's changing from Stanford to USC and ultimately to ND

I remember reading an article about Rey, and he was quoted as saying his father chose USC, and "that's where I went". So..it works in our favor as well.

Thank you Mr. Maualuga (RIP), and thank you Mrs. Cravens. biggrin

What is written isn't always the truth, but it was the only way to spin it if Torian was going to end up at UCLA.

Imagine how Torian would be received by his teammates and the UCLA fans (if they exist) if the family publicly said "Torain wants USC, family wants UCLA, Torian is attending UCLA."

The dad was posting on BRO. He wanted UCLA.
