NCAA Presidents Approve 4-team CFB Playoff Beginning 2014

  • Well, it's finally here!
I'm curious to see the following items:

    - Who is on the selection committee
    - What the actual parameters for selecting the 4 teams will be
    - What the six semi-final bowl sites will be

Oh, just thought of more questions. Who will select the contestants for the other 4 semi-final bowl sites when they are not hosting? I assume the BCS will wither away and die.

  • Did I beat you, guess I did?

I have all the same questions you do. Except for the bowl sites, I am pretty sure we can guess 5 of the 6 right now.

    Rose
    Fiesta
    Orange
    Sugar
    Cotton

Maybe Indy, Detroit, Atlanta, Minneapolis, St Louis

  • I am confused - why does a 4-team, 2-game playoff need 6 bowl sites?

    4+2=6

I'll have you know that I was the 5th AND 6th grade flashcards champ.

    Saw this tweet:
Selection committee will rank 4 playoff teams based on: W-L record, SOS, head-to-head & if team is conference champion.

Don't know if that is order of importance or if they take a composite of those numbers, but the deal favors the SEC again.

Saw that too. I just would like to know if there is a preferred order of preference or a weighting to each of those items. If SoS is ranked low, then that does help out the SEC, but conversely if Conf Champ is ranked high, then that screws over a 2nd SEC team.

You have too much hope in SoS. SoS with so few games played and so few cross divisional match-ups is a circular decision that won't benefit the PAC12 much at all unless the equation used really dings teams for FBS matchups and too many home games.

  • well, there should be minus points for games against non BCS, div II, and SBC teams. Look at the schedules of the pretenders for 2012 including the Quacks: TNState, Towson, Florida A/M, Western Kentucky, , etc ad nauseum. How can those games even be counted? . I was actually ashamed when USC scheduled Idaho a couple of years ago. There should penalties for scheduling those teams just to pump up the W/L column. Also if a team can't win seven or games, then there should be no bowling either, which would enhance the value of going to a bowl
