There's no or. No way they would bench Matt on his last game at the coliseum his senior year.

  • I gotta say, I like ND's chances. Wittek is very talented, but this will be his first start, right? As long as ND is able to get consistent pressure on him (which they should be able to do), this is ND's game to lose.

  • He throws a nice ball if he gets time from the O-Line i'm sure he can be successful.

  • Run the damn ball!

Witteks first start but he seems very calm in the pocket from the few times I've seen. Also few people saying he has a better arm than Barkley, and I think Steve Clarkson said he was the better QB or something like that. This is great experience for him..It's going to be extremely tough on him especially with that Notre Dame defense but if he puts on the "Dont give a shit" attitude and plays his game, we have a great chance.

And by "great," don't you mean "slim"?

  • Feel horrible for Matt. I don't care how he has played this year, the kid is pure class and embodies what it means to be a Trojan. He could have transferred after his freshman year but stayed and kept the team together. He could have left last year and made millions and returned for unfinished business. I was really looking forward to him running out of the tunnel on senior day with a thunderous ovation. He'll still get it but it's unfair he is injured and can't start against ND.

I think this game presents a unique opportunity for Wittek and the entire USC team. Notre Dame is currently ranked 12th in the country in total sacks which means they will apply pressure up front. This will give Wittek an opportunity to use his legs and evade the pressure. I have seen him in person a number of times and he is a physical specimen. He is about 6'3"-6'4" and 230-240 pounds (almost identical to Cam Newton).

At this point we have nothing to lose, so let's hope Kiffin goes balls to the wall with his play calling. This will give Wittek an opportunity to mitigate the pressure up front.

I'm sorry I am Trojan fan through thick and thin and even if we were 0-11 against 11-0 Notre Dame, I am going to have confidence and faith in my team no matter who is playing or coaching. So yes, great chance!

  • What a rough way to get your first start. This ND defense looks pretty damn good and I'm hoping Moody and Redd take a lot of pressure off Wittek.

    RonBurgundy78

  • ND has given up 9TDs all season. Good luck.

  • LOL really?

    iluvuscoH

  • Does anyone else think CLK should open up the offense and take chances on defense since they have nothing to lose?

    USCdynasty

  • Whoever he faces in the first game next year is going to look a lot more manageable having faced ND this year! Reps are pretty useful for getting him ready for next year.

Notre Dame fans are completely delusional. You do relize Notre Dame is 4-5 plays away from having the same record as USC against some pretty bad teams. Maybe after being completly inrelavant for 20 years you should wait until Notre Dame has completed a successful season before trolling rivil forums.

As for Max Wittek, I was at the Stanford game and watched him in pregame. Not to disrespect anyone but if you took the numbers off of the QB's and watched them warmup you would pick Max. He was FAR more impressive then anyone on the field. He stood out like a d-1 player in high school. He has an absolute gun, perfect motion, and was right on the money everytime. Obviously I can't see what is between the ears, but his physical tools are off the chart and I am extremely excited to see him play.

PS ask Ohio st what a USC freshman QB can do to a top ranked team.

If they prep him properly this week, it could actually turn into a huge advantage. Wittek has nothing to lose since it's his first game as starter. Have him throw some conservative passes to start with, screens out to Marquise & Woods. Roll him out a couple times. Then turn him lose, he didn't come to SC to be spoon fed.
This could ultimately be a good thing and become our "Rudy" moment. NOTHING TO LOSE!! horn

ooo ooo me me me!. Wittek is a stud. It is tough thing to have this as his first start. But....Stanford's QB was only in his second start against OR. CLK needs to say screw it and open up the playbook. We have absolutely NOTHING to lose at this point except our pride. I feel bad for Matt.

    Troybill

  • Well, remember when Stanford's Tavita Pritchard (with 3 total passes worth of experience) upset #2 USC at the Coliseum? It can be done.

    Flyerz73

  • I don't usually check out other teams boards, but I just wanted to see how how you 'SC fans reacted to Wittick being the starter. He looks impressive, and honestly I think all the pressure Barkley put on himself returning has made him try to play to forceful this year so maybe this fresh qb will shake things up for you guys. Anyway, hope its a good
game Saturday night. Good luck and GO IRISH!
