At Practice with Max Redfield: Mission Vie...

Max Redfield is a 6'3" 195 lb safety from Mission Viejo High School (Mission Viejo, CA). Max Redfield is currently the #2 safety in California and has offers from many schools including USC, Notre Dame, Oregon, LSU and Oklahoma.

  • We need to land this kid. He is a terrific athlete.

  • If he is truly committed to a school/program for academics first (the degree that delivers the most after football is over) and a history of success, the best prep for the NFL, I would think that eliminates Oregon and puts USC at the very top opf the list--at least for the Pac 12 schools. ND?...meh.

That, with the coaching staff he mentions, should favor USC bigtime, but I keep hearing that LSU is at or near the top consistently.

Hopefully he ends up a Trojan---this kid is special.

  • If he's committed to a school with great academics, that should eliminate the SEC with the exception of Vandy

I remember a Jarvis Jones interview after he committed to USC, LSU was one of his interests, he said something about LSU trying to sell him some untruths about their academics. Wish I could find the video, he was very guarded about what exactly the untruths were, but by the look on his face and refusal to say any more, it appeared he was less than impressed with their academic presentation vs the truth.

If Max is considering LSU for it's great football program fine, but don't say quality academics has anything to do with it.

If Max is true to himself regarding academics, then yeah----the SEC and Remedial Tech in Eugene should be a non factor.

ND doesn't worry me as their coaching staff, or lack thereof, takes part of that equation.

  • He is such a natural player from that short clip. More than just a safety and has some really good hands.

Does anyone know how high he is among the other dbs we has have left on the board?

how high on USC's recruiting board? I'd say the coaches have redfield and cravens as their top 2 safeties.

  • I think they have him higher than Goodman but want them both. MV = SC pipeline.

Yeah I was meaning coaches. Cravens is the cream of the crop but this kid can play. First time I've seen tape on him for some reason but he impressed me. Don't want to see him get away

  • Max fits USC like a glove. I find it interesting that Furd, who had been stiff competition over the last few years, does not seem to be a force for some of the highest quality student athletes any more, like Max.

Am I crazy, or has Furd fallen back in recruiting?

    DallasTrojan

  • It's because he can't coach, and the recruits know it now. He really doesn't have anything to sell besides education.

No question he and Cravens are the top safeties in the west, maybe even in the nation...

  • Look for a lot of lsu interests of these kids to die down for a few reasons. Street agents have been identified and removed as well as a huge cultural divide between baton rouge and mission viejo.

Winning the academic award in the SEC is sort of like winning the special olympics. Even if you win, you are still a retard.

Where do you think Max ends up?

  • Newest article from Justin Hopkins, seems to suggest this will be a two-team race for Redfield. Not sure how confident I am yet but I hope we (Oregon) can pull it out.

Say you're a top D1 defenisve prospect who has the talent and desire to play on Sundays, and has mentioned that the most important facets are: Education and what that institution's degree can do post-football, team's history and quality of the coaching staff

With respect to coaching staffs and which program has put the most defensive players in the NFL....where would you elect to attend school and play football?

  • While I realize there are exceptions, I general ignore anything a kid has to say about the importance of academics. I've seen enough kids say it and then choose ASU or Florida over SC, Cal, UW, etc.

I understand and agree with your education point of view, no arguments there. But our last 4-5 safeties have all gone to the NFL. Patrick Chung, TJ Ward, and Jairus Byrd (played CB for us) are all starting nfl safeties when healthy.

Eddie pleasant just made a squad and John Boyett will also be drafted. And all these guys were 2/3 stars out of high school.

I understand your guys ability to put guys in the nfl as well, I'm not arguing that, but you can't discredit ours. DB's have arguably been our strongest position making it to the nfl in the last 5-7 years.
