LOL.......Oregon Ducks don't deny the drug culture in Eugene

  • NCF - Oregon Ducks don't deny the drug culture in Eugene - ESPN The Magazine - ESPN

Marijuana and Eugene, Ore., have always been tied together like laces in a football. That suits some players from the local college football power just fine, writes Sam Alipour in ESPN The Magazine.

It's the weed capital of the world. Long dreads. Girls with hairy armpits. Where there's hippies, there's weed - Oregon Duck Reuben Droughns

  • Whats funny is, on the float board, some guys are actually saying that this article could HELP with recruiting!! Lol. Dude, every coach in the country can negetive recruit oregon like crazy with this article!! All a coach has to do is show recruits mom and dad this article and the yucks will fall alot for many potential recruits and most of all their parents. I would not want my son going to a school where half the kids on the team smoke weed. Hell no.

Hey recruits, come to Eugene...we have tons of hippy chicks with hairy armpits!

  • Nice images in the article! That graphic artist must have had fun.

  • Funny but stupid. It's everywhere, at every program, in every school. It was huge at USC and I graduated like a semester ago.

Yup. Just last year my buddy saw a bunch of D-Linemen toking up behind Wendy's.

Probably not a good thing to advertise though haha.

  • Honestly the stuff is going to be perfectly legal in a few years. Same at tobacco and alcohol fine in moderation.

  • Most parents dont see it as "normal" though. The younger generation sees weed as no big deal, their parents however see it as a stumbling block for their kids. Like me for example, I smoked at partys when I was in high school, I thought it was a no biggie. However, now im 32, and have two little boys of my own. And speaking as a parent, I dont want my kids to ever have anything to do with that stuff. You change alot when you have children. And while this probably happens on every football team, this perticular article targets oregon as a school that embraces weed as a geographical hobby almost! So from a parental perspective, this article could hurt oregon recruiting I believe.

No, your kids changed YOUR perspective. Hard to take you seriously when you're speaking on behalf of most parents. And I don't think this hurts Oregon any more than Easy E selling E out of a USC dorm hurt USC.

+1 as a parent of two young girls, I could not agree more.

Again, stupid. As a father of girls you should do everything in your power to have alcohol made illegal. You don't hear about kids stealing, vandalizing, raping, and fighting while on weed.

I guess when my girls reach dating age I will just look the other way if they bring home a pothead boyfriend, instead of kicking his trash to the curb.

This thread is not even about making things illegal. And your calling kyod stupid?? Your probably young im guessing? Early 20's? Think you got the world figured out? No kids?? Yet you call kyod stupid for his view on a subject reguarding parental views? Shut up you little punk, your late for class. You know nothing inside your parents sheltered bubble.

Lol. All I'm saying is, after just finishing college, I would be terrified of my daughters being around alcohol at parties. It makes me almost not want to have kids. Lol. Praying for boys but expecting girls. Don't want my kids doing either but if it came down to having my girl black out drunk at a college party or really high ordering dominoes I would take the later. Then again, once kids get older then they shouldn't be so dumb at parties but I saw the exact same thing every year from every class year. Both are bad but I just get annoyed that alcohol gets such a pass when its as bad if not worse. /endrant

Wasn't calling him stupid. Relax and take a deep breath. Calling the freak out on weed stupid. I don't smoke either but I think its overblown

  • It may not be so easy as you think to negative recruit to parents based off of this article. See the 30-49 age range and west region in the link below? 55% and 54% in favor of legalization for recreational use. Sounds like those categories fit 95% of the parents of Oregon recruits.

Well if the oregon article was about ALCOHAL, then we'd be talking about alcohal, but its about WEED, so thats what kyod and myself we're talking about, as PARENTS. We dont disagree that alcohal is bad, we're not stupid. But we are discussing the article at hand. You hijacked the thread and changed the subject to alcohal use.
    Oh and p.s.
There is nothing more rediculous than a young kid telling parents how to be parents.

My first comment was that it was stupid because if you did the same survey at USC you would find the same thing and it's not confined to Oregon or USC. My next comment, sort of involved your comment about how you smoked at parties where, yes smoking is bad, but the worst things from that night were going to come from the drinking. DUIs, fights, unconsensual sex. Anyways man, my main point was that the article is a joke; what is ESPN going to tell us next: "Study finds 19 year old kids enjoy sex."
ps raise your kids how you want, I seriously could care less about your kids

  • First off, anyone appauled by this I think you will find out you are in the minority. Are there some parents who might be turned off by this? Sure but any parent that has done their due dilligence at least in the last 25 years would already know exactly what Eugene is all about. I actually think Oregon's position on this could actually improve recruiting with some kids.

    I guess we'll just see

Exactly. This is nothing new and it's all over especially on the west coast. I'd say the University of Colorado might take the cake

  • It is delusional to think your kids aren't smoking pot in college - it's everywhere...but there is smoking pot recreationally, and a down right pervasive pot/drug culture in a university not known for academics. Oregon is the latter.

Kids going to a school to party and get stoned all the time, vs kids who study hard, but toke it up in social situations or to relax, is another.

I don't like tobacco, alcohol or pot and drugs...and I stressed to my girls not to use them because I never did, but I'm certainly not fool enough to think they didn't try it. I'm not going to pontificate to those that do.

That's true. They just drive around at 2 in the morning with no license going over 100mph. No trouble there.
