Just 3 USC Players Drafted?

  • Can't remember the last time that happened.

What does that mean to you?

  • That the majority of our talent were underclassmen.

USC is a powerful place that Lane Kiffin is ruining.

  • Imagine if Kalil and Perry both decided to come back for their Senior seasons, the number would have been one--Rhett Ellison. Ellison, BTW, was a 3-star recruit in the '07 draft class. Some other class of '07 guys, who didn't get drafted this year, were 5-stars Marc Tyler and Chris Galippo, as well as 4-stars Brandon Carswell, Martin Coleman, DaJohn Harris, Marshall Jones and Christian Tupou.

  • Two players DaJohn Harris and Armond Armstead would have been picked but they had health concerns. I hope they have great careers.

Also, Marc Tyler and Chris Gallipo did not get drafted to injuries. Marc Tyler's slow 40 time hurt him.

I was surprised Brandon Carswell did not get drafted. I thought he would get picked.

  • I am only guessing but did the free agent period and medical issue kids have a lot do do with this years draft being light?

Just off the top of my head:

    Malik- Free Agent, Drafted
Mondo- Medical, Posibly could have been drafted if healthy
    Telfort- Medical
Jarvis- Medical, 4 year starter had he stayed healthy
    Gallipo- Medical issues

Probably more I am not thinking of.

Add also, Frankie Telfort and Matt Meyers to the list of guys with medical issues who most likely would've been drafted this year. If you guys think Dion Bailey was good last year, multiply his performance by 10, and you have Frankie Telfort......and Matt Meyers was every bit as good as Matt Kalil coming out of HS.

My bad, I meant Frankie Telfort when I typed Telfar. Probably super undersized but speed and instincts would have killed it.

I forgot all about Meyer who was a mountain of a kid when I saw him at the spring game a few years back. Looked like one of those Okie/Wisconsin giant OL they always pump out.

Jervis would have been the first LBer picked this year IMO, and I believe he will be a Top 5 pick next year. The word beast is way overused, but it doesn't even do him justice.

He is potentially a 12 -15 year starter in the NFL with no limit to what he can do.

Pete's last 2 classes were pretty weak. So many transfers, busts, or other circumstances

This was a thin draft class for SC, and mostly because our cupboards were pretty empty due to injuries, illnesses, and NZAA buttheads. Tyler could have been drafted had he not been so injured and stupid over the years. Going forward, however, this means nothing in regards to SC's prowess as a program. We had a thin senior class going into the season with all the transfers and extraordinary cirumstances, but the program now is stacked with solid seniors and tons of underclassmen.

    THIS!

I think once Kiffin, Orgeron and Sarkisian left, the recruiting went down hill pretty quick. The 2007 & 2008 draft had double digit Trojans drafted, but has fallen off since, which coincides with those 3 coaches leaving.

Not sure how many injuries/transfers occurred in the past few years or whether it was any different than the early 2000's.

I'm pretty sure once the 2014 draft rolls around, we should be seeing double digit Trojans get drafted again.

  • Wow, just read this post. Looks like the Pac-12 in general had a bad draft year:

Not much, really. Their NFL careers and college careers are two separate things. I'm invested in their college career, not their pro career. Their college accomplishments mean everything to me.

  • Malik Jackson transferred from USC due to the NCAA sanction rule that allowed players to transfer without sitting a year. He was drafted.

Broderick Green transferred from USC. He had injuries and did not get drafted.

Armond Armstead and DaJohn Harris should have been drafted.

Frankie Telfort would have been a junior this season. He would have enter next year's draft and been drafted.

Also, Marc Tyler would have been drafted.

It doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot to me. 2 first rounders is right in line with typical NFL drafts.

It also shows me that sticking around and playing for the Trojans instead of being the next Fred Matua ( God Bless him...but HE SHOULD HAVE STAYED..agree) is the smart thing to do.

One caveat - Fred knew he wasn't pro-ready, but he left because his family had serious financial needs (and if I recall correctly, family health issues as well). It's become trite to hear people going pro "to do what's best for their family" but in this case, it was accurate.

Otherwise, I completely agree. If Barkley and TJ go pro, we're talking about minimum 3 first-rounders including two top-10 guys, and another possible late first/early second round guy.

As has been stated, the majority of talent on the roster is underclassmen. I don't, however, think that's due to Pete not having talented guys on the team when he left but rather a combination of fluke health issues and a lack of development thanks to mediocre coaching staffs in the final years of PC's tenure.

I completely agree especially considering 2/3 of the projected starters for next years team (consensus top 2 ranking/expected to contend for a bcs title) will be pc recruits.
