Howard sees a fit at USC

  • imagine Howard's experience hanging out with the former long time Tampa Bay defensive coordinator who has won a super bowl and is considered the godfather of the Tampa 2 defense? Then hanging out with your position coach who was a 10 year vet and a former pro bowler who went to SC?

For a defensive kid from Florida, it can't get any better than hanging out with Monte. He has seen everything and knows how to prepare you for the NFL. Then you have Nickel Robey from Florida as your host who has started his entire time at USC.

I think SC has a real shot here. The only issue is the number of scholarships available.

There's still a big need at CB even with Seymour imo. He's a no questions asked take

I agree with your points except the last one.

If Howard wants to come to SC, I have no doubt there will be a slot for him.

Too good to pass up. Teaming him and Seymour would give Monte a lot of options to choose from to keep varying his coverages and blitzes throughout a game and the season.

    What if....

Seumalo, Murphy or Peat, Banner, Foster, Angolor and McCord all verbally committed and wanted to come?

If we have 6 remaining slots, then it gets difficult. Some of these guys may already be verbal commits. I am under the opinion that if any of these guys committed, then we would take them.

Anyways, I would love to get all of them. I am assuming that JCF and Pio will reaffirm their commitments on their official visits next weekend. (I really think the OV makes a pretty powerful argument for SC, then again, I am biased).

That would be a high class problem.

    But I doubt it happens.

Why would we want Murphy, Peat, AND Banner, all of whom play the same position, considering we already have Simmons and Tuerk committed?

We need help at the offensive tackle positions, but with the reduced scholarships, we have to be meticulous in whom we choose to offer one, unlike previous years.

Besides, Murphy seems pretty set on Stanford, and Peat is 33-33-33 on Stanford, SC, and Nebraska.

I really like our chances of getting Foster, especially with Tupoi leaving Cal, the school Foster was really considering. Now, it's down to ASU and USC, it seems. I like our chances.

Foster is considering Cal because of Ron Gould the running back coach who is his main recruiter.

  • you said "Why would we want Murphy, Peat, AND Banner,"

I said: "Seumalo, Murphy or Peat, Banner, Foster, Angolor and McCord"

    MURPHY or PEAT.

    Translation:

What if Seumalo, Murphy and Banner come?

    or

What if Seumalo, Peat and Banner come?

I think we take all three. I agree with you that we won't take three tackles. If we take three more linemen ...which is possible, then I think Wheeler stays on the dline.

I still think that a line of Peat, Simmons, Seumalo, Tuerk and Banner is possible.

I don't think all three will happen.

I also don't think they'd take Seumalo over Howard if Howard and all 3 OL wanted to come.

Howard is too good of a talent to pass up at a position without great depth going forward.

However, if SC can't get a DL in this class, I could see Howard, Algohar, Foster and all three OL.

  • Guys, with Lupoi leaving Cal, do you think like our chances of getting Shittu AND E-Mac?

If so, among the un-commited prospects who recently took an OV to USC, whom do we pass on? We only have a handful of schollys remaining but have a plethora of kids taking visits here. In the unlikely event that all our targeted prospects want to play at USC, which guys do we take in?

Here's a list of potential of the recruits: Banner, Peat, Stefon Diggs, Seumalo, Agholor, Howard, Foster, McCarthy, Shittu, McCord, and Bogard, among a few others.

    voice_of_reason

  • I do think that we take Seumalo if he wants to come here. Would love to somehow get back into the EM sweepstakes. I just can't see how ucla is now the leader when our staff has been recruiting him forever. Perhaps Shittu sees the opportunity at SC?

Assuming we can take seven guys. Here is my wish list:
    1. Banner
    2. Seumalo
    3. Howard
    4. Angolor
    5. Peat or Murphy (don't care which)
    6. Shittu, McCord or McCarthy (would prefer the DTs over the DE though)
    7. DJ Foster (need a back)

While Howard does like USC he wont be heading that far from home. If yall wernt so far you would have a legit shot to land him. That being said his interest is really fallin off of for FSU..UF an LSU are his #1 an #2, if LSU blows his socks off he will be a Tiger. If not he will be a Gator. Our guys are very confident in landing him, thanks to the FSU coaches. They tried to get him to committ on the sport during a visit an he didnt like anything about that move. Or at least that was the rumors down here. His Mom an uncle are Gators an he will likely follow their lead. Dont shoot the messanger just tellin you the scoop. Again, if USC wasnt so far from home he might just be a Trojan...

Why did you bother your little 'ole self to come here and tell us that?

Good luck to the young man, wherever he lands. But if he and mama (who has brought it up in her tweets) are as interested as they say in academics, USC does has a big chance.

Thanks for your input, but I wouldn't be so sure that you're right. What is your evidence that he won't head so far from home beyond wishful thinking?

Maybe you should tweet your thoughts to his mom. She loves it when fans tell her what her son is going to do.

No, I for one appreciate it, but am curious why you think he'd want to stay at home and wouldn't consider leaving? After all we've had a load of kids from Florida (Robey, Bryant etc) that fans from the East coast all said wouldn't travel and then did...

Not really concerned with what y'all are saying. We'd love to have young Mr. Howard, but whatever happens, happens.

We don't go all cult crazy over recruits, football and regional bias, and we're certainly aren't going to tweet and harass OOS recruit's mamas or our local boys for leaving the state.

A football scholarship to USC is a great privilege, and the legacy will live on. It's up to each individual if they wish to be part of this great tradition while receiving a first rate education.

    If not...next!

I heard earlier today that Miami leads. Miami, LSU, UF.

The Howard's have already eliminated Miami...Like I said, if he dont committ to LSU on the spot during his visit he will most likely be a Gator. He will be on our campus next weekend with the likes of Stefon Diggs an Dante Fowler. BIG weekend at UF

You should be thankful that Howard resides all the way across the country or else he'd be SC. As far as Fowler in concerned, I wouldn't get my hopes up too high if I were you. He seems pretty set on FSU. Not only did he rate his visit last weekend a 16 on a scale from one to 10, but he was also trying to recruit Agholor there as well.
