Honeybadger out of LSU?

  • Analyze That said...

Loston (if he's not injured) and Reid are our safeties, Mathieu was Nickel. Simon and Collins at CB. Our FR will have to step up.

    FYI I'm an LSU fan.

Tough blow for you guys Analyze.

He is overrated as a CB, but he had a knack for making big momentum-changing plays last year in the return game and with picks and forced fumbles.

The few times when LSU was trailing last year in the reg season, they scored 6 TDs total. He had 3 of them.

When you consider how mediocre the LSU offense was, he was a huge factor in their success last year.

He was also one of the emotional leaders on their team from all appearances.

This is a big loss for LSU.

Les clearly has learned from Ryan Perrilloux. He gave Ryan every opportunity to get his act together and he couldn't and LSU was forced to turn to a young Jarrett Lee which destroyed his confidence then turn to a young Jordan Jefferson which also hurt his development. Though I'd argue Gary Crowton was the biggest culprit ultimately. Anyway, I've met Tyrann's guardian/father and he's a very hard working and wonderful man. This is a damn shame. Tyrann had so much going for him, but we see it all the time. Some guys take it for granted and don't learn. I hope he's able to get himself together before he loses it all and can make a go of it somewhere and get to the NFL.

I'm glad Miles took a stand. A lot of coaches would not. I hope we see you guys in the title game.

    Hey Brian-

Good to see you back on the board. Sorry it's because of this news though.

I hope we see you guys in Miami also. Would be an epic matchup.

I am kinda pissed about this, as I was very much looking forward to watching Lee just abuse Tryann like a child.

  • Hey, Trav! Been super busy, but I'll be checking in a lot more often. I'm surprised some consider Oregon the team to beat in the PAC over USC.

I was already intensely worried about facing Barkley/Woods/Lee with Tyrann helping out. Now it is far more daunting a task. Still, we've got a very deep secondary, but few teams can lose a game-changing talent the level of Mathieu and not feel the loss. I fully expect USC to make the title game. How is the USC depth looking this year? Injuries can cripple any team's run, but are you guys thinner due to the sanctions?

I thought the Reggie Bush "scandal" was a trumped up charge by the NCAA, and sure enough the Saints felt the same thing from the NFL this year. It's sad to see some buy into the kool-aid that USC was out of control or that the Saints wanted to cripple opponents as if these types of things don't go on at every university/team. Anyway, glad to see you guys in contention despite the sanctions especially with Barkley coming back. That's the best way to give the middle finger to the NCAA. Hopefully my Saints do the same and make it to the Super Bowl.

LSU faced Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl two years ago with Patrick Peterson and Mo Claiborne on the field at corner. Three defensive backs forced 4 turnovers that night. All freshmen players -- Mathieu, Reid, and Simon. Tharold and Eric are now juniors and we have talented kids beneath them. We also have a new secondary coach who stresses more technique. We had talent galore at defensive back under Ron Cooper, but I think our fundamentals might be better under Corey Raymond.

And I agree that Tyrann's cover skills were his weak point. He was a playmaker, though, and it's tough to lose those.

Yup. Agree with what you said. However, if Mettenberger handles the passing game as expected... It will negate his loss, some. Two passing TDs a game will be a great improvement.

    Our depth at CB:
    1. Tharhold Simon Jr
    2. Jalen Collins RSFr
    3. Jalen Mills Fr
    4. Dwayne Thomas Fr
    5. Jernquick Sandolph Fr

    S:
    1. Eric Reid Jr
    2. Craig Loston RSJr
    3. Ronald Martin So
    4. Micah Eugene RSFr

    Nickel:
    1. Micah Eugene RSFr

LSU Will not have a problem with missing his coverage which leaves alot to be desired.it's his''SWAG''his attitude was infectious amongst his teammates it's his playmaking and ST where they will miss him the most.at CB they will just re-load.

Oddly enough, Tyrann didn't like the nickname at all. It eventually blew up, but he wasn't a proponent of it. My understanding is that he's a good kid, but obviously he had some issues he wasn't willing to work through.

Better hope he's not married or Brent will lamenting all season long about him being badgered by his honey for dropping out.

Bruce Feldman tweeted that if its a 3rd failed drug test TM7 won't be eligible to play at another NCAA school this year.

Could he play a Bob Sanders type of role on an NFL team? Sanders is not a big dude either, but in his prime he was sick. The beating that his small frame took caught up to him quickly in the NFL though.
