  • Browne is playing in the Army game, so he won't be the first ranked QB.

    alexSC

  • dont care, espn is biased plus they have them pretty close

    trojans87

  • Would someone mind explaining the bias/Army game issue that is being alluded to? I am not familiar with why playing the army game would cause a bias against Browne. Thanks to anybody that can help clear that up for me!

  • Because espn endorses the under armor game.

When they announce the UA game on ESPN they can say "We have the number one ranked pro style QB playing in our game" and "we have the overall #1 ranked QB Swooops playing in the game". And " We have 15 of 20 of the top ranked players in the country on the field today". It's creating their own hype to validate their marketing money machine income.

    Justin Davis as RB #24......ok......

  • They're both great players, but I think it's safe to say that Max Browne is widely considered the best high school quarterback in the country.

    Max Browne:
    247: #1, Scout: #1, Rivals: #1 , ESPN: #2

    Christian Hackenberg

    247: #3, Scout: #13, Rivals: #8 , ESPN: #1

  • I'm no expert on this stuff, but as far as I can tell, at this point (maybe not this point of the year, but just overall quality throughout the year) it's 247>Rivals>>Scout>>>>>>>>ESPN. I rarely even look at ESPN recruit rankings for football or basketball. I'm not even one of those big ESPN haters either, their scouting just seems bad.

  • ESPN is a marketing enterprise. Most of its "reporting" is really marketing for its own on-air product.

I think rivals still has the best scouting. I would put it as:

    Rivals>Scout>>24/7>>>>>ESPN

24/7, however, clearly has the best information. It's why I have my subscription here.

Hmm thanks for the info. All I knew was that a lot of those who made Rivals so good came over here to start 247. I assumed when I heard that it was the talent evaluators? I keep up with Rivals and 247, don't check Scout much anymore.

Love the way you always seem to answer those who try to perk up our Trojans hoping to get them to say something bad. Keep up the good work.

  • Had Max committed to an SEC program, ESPN would have already proclaimed him better than Andrew Luck.

Here you go......the hype and the buildup to the under armour game and the connection to the ESPN top 150:

  • And here is the roster

    http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/honors/_/id/4/class/2013

Look, they have all of the #1 players at their position according to the ESPN folks playing in their game. Hmmmm.

Take note, their is one PAC 12 commitment playing in the game.

  • There does appear to be some bias in the ESPN rankings. I appreciate everything posted to demonstrate that, as I was not previously aware of this. Is anybody aware of any article published on the topic of ESPN and their bias in the recruiting rankings?

Going by this article, you're pretty much spot on. Rivals is the best, Scout is also very good, ESPN is garbage, and 24/7 hasn't had enough time to prove itself but is likely ahead of ESPN and behind Scout. Good call.
