George Farmer Update (1/13/2012)

  • I was informed George is not academically ineligible (on academic probation) and will be participating in Spring Practices solely at wide receiver.

  • Scott Wolf is such a loser. Your sources are far more reliable than his. I am officially banning myself from his site...

  • Surprising still, George was a good student in HS according to reports. Maybe too much pressure & expectation on him...

    alexSC

  • Thanks Scott for being an informed Scott as usual. What is wrong with the other Scott I have no idea. As an outsider from Pennsylvania, just reporting someone academically ineligible without being absolutely certain seems classless. It's one thing to say he's elligible and be wrong but the other way around. Yikes.

I agree. The phenomenal success of Woods and Lee probably does not help the self inflicted pressure either.

Go back and re-read Scott's original post.

It's his first semester. He's dealing with an extreme workload that many of us have never experienced, much less at 17/18 years old.

Scott Wolf should have gotten the full Reggie Bush dissociation treatment a long time ago. Ban him from campus permanently. The fact that he has an SC degree is a complete embarrassment

  • I don't know why the school gives him any access at all. They really ought to tell the Daily News to find a new reporter or lose their access entirely.

USC tailback-wide receiver George Farmer is academically ineligible and will not be able to participate in spring practice, according to sources. It is conceivable Farmer could get a grade changed to improve his status but as of right now he will not be able to practice.
If he cannot participate in spring practice, it would be a costly blow because Farmer figured to play a prominent role in the spring with tailback Amir Carlisle, wide receiver Brice Butler and wide receiver Kyle Prater no longer on the roster.

Hmm, wonder if he got a "grade changed" ironically stir j/k

That is what started the rumors. Scott S buried those rumors and the post you quoted I believe was referencing a guy who appears to have interpreted Scott S's post as saying Farmer IS ineligible, when in fact it says the opposite.

I don't read good. Got my Scotts mixed up somehow. My sincere apologies to Scott Schrader, who should never have to endure such an insult.

    I'd buy that except...

    A. How many freshmen have we had ineligible at any point on this team? I honestly can't think of a single one.

    and

    B. The academic support system they have is phenomenal, and something I've seen with my own eyes from having friends who peer tutor (in addition to the faculty tutors they can be assigned) as well as knowing several athletes in my time there. If you put in the effort and ask for help, it is extremely difficult to fail.

Which, not so surprisingly, is why he isn't ineligible like the Wolf erroneously reported. But if he or anyone else were, there aren't excuses to be made, hence why we only see maybe one player per year ruled ineligible instead of a pandemic every season. Yes, they have unreasonably demanding schedules but they also have dramatically more resources at their disposal to improve their academic performance than the average student as well. If George or any player wants to succeed and puts in the requisite effort in the classroom, staying eligible should be the least of their concerns.

Joe McKnight was ineligble for spring practice his freshmen year in 2008. I think Whitney Lewis he was sophmore or redshirt freshmen.

Good call about McKnight, forgot about that. Still, one freshman in how long?

Lewis was for his sophomore season and redshirted... and in a way, that proves my point because work ethic was hardly his strong suit.
