Dwayne Jarrett Retires

  • I will never forget the Rose Bowl where he was unstoppable against Michigan and was named the MVP. The crowd was chanting "one more year" but he decided to leave for the NFL early instead of coming back for his senior year. His NFL career definitely did not go as planned on the field as well as off the field and I am sure he is looking back and thinking he should have listened to the crowd that day and came back for one more year at USC. He will forever be a great WR at USC and one of my favorites, and I hope he is successful at whatever he decides to do with his life now after his football playing days are over. FIGHT ON Dwayne!!!

  • Don't you need a career to retire from first??

Still one of my favorite Trojan receivers....

I think after you have separated your employer from several million dollars --

-- it is fair to say retire even if it didn't seem like much of a career.

    A favorite of mine too.

So making almost 4 million dollars for 4 years of work is nothing?
WOW! Well done topping that! Congrats!

I guess it depends on what constitutes "retirement". Did he decide to stop playing because he didn't want to play anymore or did he stop playing because no one wanted to sign him to a contract?

Regardless, I'm probably being a bit harsh on him.....

  • I was skeptical when he first declared and didn't think he was going to be a gamebreaker in the NFL. I was hoping he'd prove me wrong....

Regardless, also on my list of top 5 all-time USC receivers. Hope he does well going forward.

  • No WR in USC history had more big catches than Dwayne Jarrett
Fourth and Nine, the Rose Bowls, the crucial 3rd down followed by the bomb down the left sideline against Oklahoma
He was a cornerstone of the greatest era in USC history IMO
and lost three games in three years

  • Love Dwayne, but he was always vastly overrated. A tremendous physical mismatch against college CBs, but never a good technical or natural WR.

    WTF?
How do you overrate someone who was the all time leading receiver at one of the top 5 football programs in history?
216 receptions and 46 TD's while sharing time with Steve Smith
You sound like a. Miami fan, who cares more about what their players do in the NFL
And if all it had to do with was a physical mismatch, then every 6'5" WR would put up those numbers.

  • I feel people forgot about him. He was a great player. He played great in the Orange Bowl in 2005 as a freshman. He replaced Mike Williams and was a big reason why that team did well. There can be an argument made that he was the greatest wide receiver at USC.

4 and 9 panic sure USC fans aren't the only ones that will forever remember that play. Honestly, I didn't know he was still in the league. Was he still with the Panthers?

He not only replaced BMW, he played over half the 2004 season without Stevie, who broke his leg against Cal

That was the Domer announcers that were getting all excited about that play. Oh course, one of them was Pat Haden! I like this version better, you get all the commentary...

Overrated player = not as good as his hype or stats suggest. See NFL career.

DJ's USC career was not overrated...he did everything and more that was asked of him. His NFL career should be labeled as a disappointment.

    Two separate issues.
