You listed all the recruits they missed on, not just from today. Then said the coaches no longer have a monopoly on the pac-12. Did you really expect them to have a monopoly with sanctions and scholarship limits? I can understand the down of losing out on Peat and Murphy, but that shouldn't diminish the fact that this staff can recruit, and have done another outstanding job.

All the recruits I mentioned except for McCarthy were supposed to be in play for us up until today or the last few days. McCarthy is whatever, sure. Point is that while I am happy with the guys we got, we had some big disappointments wthat we wouldn't typically see in the past. Of course Kiff and Orgeron can recruit, but so can a bunch of other coaches in the Pac-12. SC Coaches have done a very good job this recruiting season, but not great.

Interesting OP. PhilaTrojan, do you know any of these players beyond their star ratings and perhaps their highlight footage? Did we really miss out on Murphy, or could there be things going on behind the scenes that are hushed?
In home visits, official visits, etc are so much more than USC offering a ride to a high school star. They are also measuring tools that the coaches use in final evaluations of these players, along with other sources not generally available to you and me. Last year Orgeron and Kiffin determined a player persona they were seeking and one they were going to avoid. Meanwhile, Kiffin JR and SR developed a desired team make up (as evidenced in the quick style defense that ultimately defeated Oregon, and will need to do again).
The release of Dillon Baxter is somewhat evidence of it all.
If you have 10 5 star players with "issues", they will not perform up to the level as well coached 3-4 star players without such issues. Mix in a 5 star here and there that fits the USC mold and there will be a very compelling team developed.
From what I know, USC got almost exactly who and what they were hoping for. It is a great day to be a Trojan!

Disappointing Recruiting Day
