1. It's too early to say whether Kiffin is a longer term solution or a shorter term solution. A big part of being a head coach is recruiting assistant coaches and coordinators. Clearly, his first pass at that wasn't exactly overwhelming. Let's see how he does with this group.
2.Kiffin's a recruiting machine if he can prove to the kids that he knows how to win. Let's see that proof first.
Justifying a contract extension right now would be as over-reactionary as claiming Lane deserved to be fired last year. Too small - and too varied - a sample size. We'll know by the end of this year what the right course of action will be.
If the team comes out with a different mentality, is far more aggressive - defensively, and is playing well the first handful of games, then momentum can shift towards a special season.
However - if there are a couple stumbles, especially early on, then that dark cloud appears and the feeling of inevitibility could take over.
Haden would be a fool to renew Kiffin's contract now. If Lane took us to a BCS bowl last year and won, I could see a renewal in the off-season. After 7-6...are you crazy?
This year will determine whether Lane gets a new contract, or loses his LA privileges.

1. I'd be stunned..
2. LK is under the gun and if he doesn't do an outstanding job this year he doesn't have what it takes and should be let go.
A. Right now, I would think Haden is an idiot. After last season and lk's unpopularity most would wonder wtf.
B. how would it effect recruiting? It would be the same. We know what the staff can do. Last year showed that with a shitty season, many top kids will go to other top schools. We win, they come, simple. If kiff go 10-2, completely ok with contract renewal. If we win 7, time to change. It's a business descision Haden needs to make. Loser coach and football means less money for the program/ school.
